Custom Seizure over undervalue, worth employing a solicitor?

Received the letter by UK Customs saying it's seized as the declaration is untrue.

First time to experience this. Just wandering how firm this decision by Customs is?

Is it worth to involve a solicitor to help? Obviously, for now I don't mind to declare the full value or if the shipment can be returned back to my supplier, any result would be better than seizure.

The loss is a few month hard working :help::help::help::help:

I would think your supplier would work out something with you since they under valued it .. if it was just undervalued seems like they would just want more money

Just contact UK customs, usually they will just ask to see legit invoices and thne you will pay customs accordingly. If this isnt the first time, you may potentially get a fine.

Customs called to ask for revised invoice over the original one. I then sent them another one with increased value, which is still just a fraction of the true value, hoping i can get away with that. But no more communication since then until a letter received to formally confirm it's been seized due to undervalue, as they were still not happy with the revised value.

Looks like their final decision. But they always give you the option to challenge just like suspension of an Amazon account. Just don't know is it worth the time and solicitor fee to challenge this if anyone had experience before? It's worth about 15kUSD

Customs do know roughly what a lot of items will cost.

How much of a fraction of the true value is the new invoice? If your talking about trying to value it at 1k when it was really 15k then your going to have a tough time explain why the invoice you sent them was 1k

Like everyone said, you made a big mistake by submitting another undervalued invoice. The first one you could have excused saying that it was submitted wrongly by the shipper. Declaring the value way low would surely put you in bad shoes and above all, your name will be on black list so more shipments coming under your name or the one used on this shipment will be scanned and checked every now and then. Even the address and any shipment coming to the address will be checked.

Yes, if I had known I would at least declare 1/2 or 1/3. It happened before and I got away with a revised 1-2k invoice. Maybe I was lucky that Customs didn't check individual prices as 1-2k looks ok for a 20kg box.

Indeed, I can't send them another revised invoice, but it there really nothing I can do now?

Contact them and see what they have to say now. They will explain you your options. If you don't mind telling me what you were trying to import I might be in a better position to help you explain some things which can help you
