TNT!!! Reasonable or not?
 

so, i paid tnt to send a parcel from the UK to Chile, the parcel reached Chile now, the customer refuses to pay the custom duty, TNT said they tried contacting the receiver with no success...

I also tried contacting customer in Chile, no reply whatsoever.

So now TNT has contacted me asking what i wish to do. Asked them to return the parcel to me. And they are now asking ME to pay for the Custom duty £290 originally entering Chile - surely they can claim this back from customs as it never got delivered to the receiver?? This wouldnt count as importing / exporting is it?

And they are wanting to charge £106.75 which i think its expensive, but i can accept..... But surely they fail to contact customer to obtain payment, and it would not be my responsibility would it?

what are your thoughts on this?
Am I being unreasonable for them remove custom duty payment from my part?

Any advice appreciated.

TNT was bought by FedEx . The service is not good at all. You have to pay high taxes for almost everything. Chilean couriers sucks .

How big and expensive was this package exactly?
I use TNT for domestic shipments (had their new FedEx reps stop by for a chat) but always use parcel2go when shipping abroad as TNT just can't compete.
