How long does it take to actually get a letter from customs?
 

I called UPS and they said customs took my stuff. I'm filing a dispute with the seller on DHgate, but I'd like to have the letter as evidence so I should theoretically win the case almost guarantee. How long does it take for them to send the letter?

Also, would an email from UPS explaining the situation work as evidence to upload to DHgate? Thanks you all.

I think DHGate (seller) may not entertain this request as Customs is involved. Usually this will be present in even the shipping company's fine print. Perhaps they may if this confiscation was due to mistake on part of the sender/seller, declaring wrong value, item name or sending it in without proper packaging etc.

Of course the seller is not going to entertain this request, they're gonna try to delay as long as possible and not refund. But according to the DHgate website, it clearly says if the seller does something wrong (such as under declaring value or shipping out foo foo), then it is the seller's responsibility, and technically should get full refund.

Hope you get a full refund! What does UPS status say for your package? On Hold?? as I am waiting on a DHL package which is supposed to get to me from US but its been on HOLD for dunno why as even they're telling me there's no update about it but status says ON HOLD.

It takes 3-4 weeks for the letter from customs to arrive, from the time your inbound shipment stops moving.

Some web pages, when entering the tracking number, say it was MAY be taken into customs posession. The UPS website just says it has a warehouse scan, everyday for the last 4 days. I called UPS, they told me it was taken by customs.

Do you usually upload this document to DHgate? Waiting 3-4 weeks is a bit long. I emailed UPS, hopefully they will respond what had happened in writing. Can I use this as evidence?

I don't use DHgate or know what they accept as evidence. Logic says a Chinese company will tend to favor the Chinese seller. I deal directly with a supplier I met on Alibaba. I've only had shipments nabbed by customs maybe 3 times in my career but my supplier has always been willing to reship as long as I pay for shipping.
