I no longer ship DHL or EMS through San Fransisco or Los Angeles. Once it goes into 'clearance delay' chances are if what you have inside boxes are ⊗⊗⊗⊗, it will get seized. If legit, no need to worry. At this point your going to have to do the dreaded phone call to DHL to see what happend. Every time I called I got the same reply of your package has been seized by US Customs.

I've had too many DHL and EMS packages seized going through San Fransisco. Much too strict. All my packages get rerouted through NY to get to me in NV.

Customs will kill your packages rather it's phake or real.. You will need to have the documents saying your allowed to import the goods.

Anyways.. I wouldn't count on getting the packages back.

Chicago is just as bad. They seize one out of every two packages. I now use only a supplier who promises reshipment or offers insurance. I wonder if after a supplier gets burned a few times, they won't ship to you any longer. Has anyone heard of that happening?

I have been hearing that HK suppliers are wringing their hands over the recent shipping problems, and so far, no one seems to have a reliable work-around. It used to work that the zip code could be changed to start with a 0 or 1, and the sorting centers would just fix it and send it on. In the past month it seems they have stopped fixing zip codes and just send them back.

It has been increasingly difficult to get shipments through over the past month.

Be aware that the Obama administration has promised to make it more difficult for infringing goods to get into the country. Hollywood especially has a friend in our President.

That may seem strange at first, but think about it. With some notable exceptions, Hollywood tends to lean toward the liberal left and donates to their campaigns. So while copyright and trademark owners didn't make much headway when Bush was in office, Barak Obama is listening to them.

In addition to that, a new trade agreement is on the verge of being approved by several countries. You can read about it here:

Countries reach tentative anti-counterfeiting pact | Reuters

The fact is, it will become more and more difficult to get this stuff through customs in the future. Of course, they will never be able to inspect every package, but the days of the 1% seizure rate are fading fast.

Bottom line is, if your business depends on counterfeit goods to make money, you might want to consider changing your business model.

Of course that will happen. How many times do you think a supplier will be willing to lose money by having their goods seized by customs? At some point, common sense dictates they stop making the shipments.
