Activity: 0% Longevity: 72% | | Just an FYI for those of you who buy wholesale from China...
My orders have been taking forever the past couple of weeks. Been taking forever for the tracking #'s to even register on USPS.com or EMS.com. I asked my supplier about this, here's what he had to say... "Because it's near to the Christmas Day, there are so many international packages leaving China, it's taking longer than usual to ship packages. Expect at least extra 3-5 day wait cause Christmas come soon"
I know it's an obvious to most of you, but I figured I'd share. Hopefully it will help cut back on the "USPS/DHL/UPS delay?" threads.

Those of you who actually run successful "businesses" should learn right from the beginning that you always order in bulk long before holidays. Then you can stop crying.
If you can't afford bulk, then place small orders as frequently as possible. All common sense. | The Following User Says Thank You to unkown5454 For This Useful Post:

I start ordering extra in October. That way I can spread the expense over nearly 2 months and I KNOW what I will have in stock for Chirstmas. Is is not just the DELAYS you need to worry about. Popular items can go out of stock too.
Also, you need to order extra early in January. There is a Chinese holiday that lasts for almost 2 weeks the last week of January and the first week of February.

I lookled this up on About.com. This is the combination of the Chinese New Year (also known as the Spring festival) and rhe Lantern Festival. The New Year/Spring Festival seems to be the BIG Holiday in China when families get together. This years it starts on January 23rd.
From About.com: Falling on the first day of the first month of the lunisolar calendar, Chinese New Year is just the start of a fifteen day celebration that ends with the Lantern Festival. Families spend weeks preparing for the event: cleaning and decorating the house, making offerings to the Chinese Kitchen God, and cooking up festive foods. Once Chinese New Year arrives, numerous traditions mark the fifteen day event, from parades and firecrackers to the lucky money envelopes older family members pass out to children on New Year's Day. | The Following User Says Thank You to jeffweico For This Useful Post:

There are actually some merchants who close for 4 weeks. If you are lucky, they will only take 2 weeks off.

It is not the truth. Now if shipped by EMS directly ,the goods can be shipped out at same day in guang zhou .But if the goods being handle by shipping agents or any forwarder, that might be a bit delay because their warehouse is limited to load so many packages.
But if chinese new year is coming, the goods really will be delay for two weeks at least. But there are still 40 days more to chinese new year

What Teedon is saying is correct, the delay about the christmas period is not true, the only time your packages will be delayed is during chinese new year.
Whats more likely is that your supplier's forwarder, may simply be sending their packages to another forwarder they work with (for cheaper rates) who takes a few days to process the orders before shipping the goods out, this is why they wouldnt be trackable even though your supplier is claiming they have sent the goods.
The Vietnamese idea is good in theory and im sure in about 5-10yrs time will probably be very relevant, due to chinese labout costs becoming to high, the strenght of the RMB and domestic demand increasing. For the time being there is no where near the same selection of variety and products as offered from china
