Cost Effective Label Printing

Ebay prepaid labels.

Im ink jetting and it works fine but im sucking up a 1 black cart every 30 days.

Worth it to suck it up and get a thermal printer? Or does the label cost cancel out the savings?

they_screwed_me_too 09-15-2012 01:46 PM

get a laser jet with toner cartridge, mine prints 3000 labels or more on one $10 cartrige

I buy my label paper on ebay, 4 rolls for $3 each, 250 labels. I 3rd on using the zebra printer. I might have to get another one cuz my is acting up.

golden_monkey 09-15-2012 05:07 PM

yep i've been weighing in on a laser cause I know they print for miles before they need more toner.

but the label printers are cheaper, and damn it no ink or toner! :amen:

Is it compatible with USPS website?

TGMT² 09-16-2012 12:59 AM

All the WAY for the Zebra LP2844

I always buy them without a power supply as many Laptop power supplies work perfect with them.

Picked up my last Zebra for $1. :D

and the one before that for $5. :)

Yes, I have bought several at Garage/Yard sales and a couple on Craigslist. They are GREAT resellers on eBay. :)

Sometimes you can buy them for super cheap on eBay without a power supply.

Here is a picture of mine using a HP Laptop power supply...

Its so beautifullll

FourNines 09-16-2012 11:58 PM

If you have a ups account, you can lease a zebra label printer from them for a few bucks a week and they provide all the labels for FREE.
We used the printer for both UPS and for USPS label printing.

FizzyFish 09-17-2012 01:29 AM

Wow - how many labels do you print and what setting are you using?

I have to print 3 customs docs and an address label for each and every item I sell. I have the printer set to print as fast draft black only. Calibri is meant to be one of the most ink saving fonts to use too, so I use that.

I write the install dates on my cartridges. The current one was installed on the 14th of May and still shows as 3/4 full! It is a HP XL refilled cartridge.

This refill has outlasted the original HP cartridges I was using.

Changing the settings to the bare minimum requirements really makes a difference.

Oh - I don't print black either...I changed all the text to grey instead. I use the lightest one I could get away with - it has really made a difference in ink consumption.

I was really tempted to get a zebra or equivalent but you can't pick them up here for $1 its more like $100-$200 even for second hand. Since I changed all my settings and found a supplier of refilled cartridges that work 90% of the time and offer replacements for duff cartridges I'm not sure I am going to bother.

golden_monkey 12-03-2012 09:46 PM

refills suck for me.. im running HP 901's and it seems they went up on their price a few bux so maybe back to refills. (they don't last as long)

im doing all the ink saving tricks, fast draft it prints so fast it feels like the printer is trying to punch you with paper. HERE, NOW GET LOST haahh.

this baby is supporting 2 power seller accounts so Im getting my mileage out of it.

maybe i'll try the grey ink trick... how are you getting it to change the color of the paid labels?

Next I think im just going to suck up and go with an old 90's HP laser jet, I set one up many moons ago for a reporting department that was burning up printers like underware and that tank kept it coming non-stop and was very great on toner.

only issue is im going to have to setup a print server cause its going to be a flipping para cable.

slim jim 12-03-2012 10:29 PM

you started a post and then ignored all of the good advice. get a thermal printer and life will be easy and you will never have to buy ink again.

golden_monkey 12-04-2012 01:08 AM

I didn't ignore it......... just wanted to know.

zebra seems like the label printing master.............i also have some exp with the zebra in other settings.

slim jim 12-04-2012 02:19 AM

Didn't mean it like that. If you are doing so much printing you are wasting money. Don't pay for ink and don't pay for labels. Its your choice in the end
