Default USPS Shipping Rate Increase - WOW!!

Like everyone else, I received advance notice that the USPS were raising prices. I briefly scanned over the notice and thought it was no big deal.

Ooops, I was wrong. USPS First Class International almost doubled!! My 5oz shipment to Canada went from $3.60 to $7.70, the same 5oz to Australia went from $6.60 to $11.48. These are crazy large increases. The only additional benefit is that 1st Class Int'l to Canada now has tracking & delivery confirmation, which I'm sure Canada Post will screw up.

Time to get to work adjusting shipping charges.

Rant over.

My mother worked 15 years for usps. Her big pension? $1,200/mo taxable. So maybe some fatcats are getting big pensions but it aint the rank-and-file.

The flat rate boxes went up pretty good...

That means that e bay will make even more money when they take out the final value fee...because sellers will increase the shipping costs to cover the extra costs...

Crazy cycle

Exactly.

I have a family member who delivers mail and made 90k last year, 5 weeks paid vacation, free health care works 4 days on, 3 days off and rotates.

He tells us at 56 he can retire with 3500 a month retirement income, lifetime free HC plus they have a huge amount stashed away in 401k b/c they were match 1.00 for 1.00 for many years. If he stays until 62 it goes up past 4000.

Lots of retired postal workers out there, getting to retire at an early age and collecting benefits for many years past when most people are still working.

My shipping rate to Canada for a 1lb 2oz item went from $6.60 to $10.something. I though it was a glitch until the read the rate increase announcement.

The only thing that does not make sense is that priority is usually cheaper or same price as parcel post. Why??????

That is only upto a certain weight, I think anything over 3-4lb, parcel post will start to get cheaper. In the 1-2lb range where I ship my items, Priority is the same price or a few cents cheaper. So I ship using that method, I dont understand why, I just ship items, I dont run USPS.

parcel post is good for large heavy items like 10+lbs and won't fit into a flat rate.

Yeah they make so much money yet takes 2 weeks to go 350 miles only and at times USPS loses packages! To lazy to pick it up for $90k a year? I don't feel sorry when I see them on CNN losing their jobs and being laid off! With higher prices will there be nicer customer service with that?

Thank god I don't have to stand in line, my buddy does! (sometimes). lol

The ironic thing is I can send a 5oz package from Thailand to the US, delivered by the USPS, and its $4.30!

You do realise that USPS is millions of $$ in debt right?

Canada Post is however racking in MILLIONS 500m in profits alone this last year.

If they offered a better service with USPS and not lose packages and do things they are suppose too maybe people wouldn't have to go to USPS or FEDEX for their services! It's bs how they lose a package then they tell you "oh you should buy insurance next time" How about next time you do your job right!

When I lived in the US I seen how they act and bs at times when you come with a lot of work for them. LAZY ****3rs!!! Not all but some, and those in Detroit are probably the worse ones ever! Not to mention that lady in France I see once in a blue moon! lol
