Default Charged customs duties for electronics/batteries?

Ok, I got charged a hefty amount for customs duties from fedex international economy. I got some batteries, and I guess this falls under electronics right?

Does anyone know if there are duties/taxes on these? I could have sworn I have heard that there are none. I googled over and over again, can't find worth a damn.

The first results is from dutycalculator dot com and you only get one free quote. Not even sure if I can believe these guys. I want to read it from a .gov website and cpb.gov seems useless.

Everytime I type in import from china to usa electronics or something of that nature, it gives me back tobacco and alcohol. I mean who designs these search engines? Grrr...

Did a phone call (without giving your name) to Fedex International Economy give no joy?

May have been quicker to call them rather than a forum.....

That said, see what the below URL offers

Regulations for battery imports changed late 2012.

I am aware of others talking about issues with the importation of batteries. Lithium types were one.

Found notes, glacier' regarding batteries.

if you deal with HS code 8507.60.00, you should take notice to these upcoming regulations.

check this out if that's your item number.

Thx greenbean. FedEx is closed now, they're never open when you're available. It's not open until 6 hours from now. You open up and see this big bill and you're like wtf!!!

I actually received the goods, called customer service which is open 24 hours. They said that its weird that I got an invoice because I actually received the items. Supposedly, I don't get the items until I pay, but since I received it, it's weird that I got a bill.
