Activity: 0% Longevity: 51% | | Little to no Verizon 3G service for last 2 weeks.
I have a flashed to 3G phone. It worked flawlessly in my house for the past year. Two - Three weeks ago it only gets 2G service (1X) less than 0.60mbps D/L speeds. I thought it was the phone so I had another one flashed but it is the same. I tried leaving my area and found out when I get close to a tower both phones work perfectly getting DL speeds around 2.5mbps. I went to Verizon and did some research online. it seems Verizon is switching over some of their towers from 3G @ 850mHz to 4Glte. From my understanding since Verizon doesn't sell a phone that runs solely on the 3G network anymore the only thing its used for is voice and small data packets from things like meters, stop lights, lift stations, and other city or county devices. I live in what would be considered a city to most of the United States. I'm on the east coast of Florida.
Is anyone else having this problem. I'm hoping its just the towers in my area and they'll be back up. I need the 3G large ip pool. I used up all my AT&T ip's and I have my accounts split in half between Verizon and AT&T. It already sux hitting airplane mode 10 times just to find a matching ip. I cant see traveling with vm's on a portable HD and a alpha network adapter connected to a laptop just to get 3G service.
If anyone else has a better understanding of what is going on with the 3G network please school me. I'm in desperate need for answers. | |
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!

I found that Sprint has a large pool with Boost mobile but the speeds are just plain crap.

No idea about the phone but I have 2 Mifi's that run on the 3G and so far all working fine.

Even at 0.60mbps, I still find that good enough to operate on ebay. Good enough to upload some pictures and list items. Just dont go dowloading Fallout 4 at 86gb.

There has to be a 3G tower down by my house if no one else has had any problems anywhere else. For the last year I could sit dead center in the middle of my house and get 3G and at good speeds. I even wrote in a post here once that my flashed 3G phone was as fast as my AT&T 4Glte (in my house), because it was the truth.
The stuff I read online about switching over towers to 4G could be true, could be false... I'm just trying to find a logical answer since I've narrowed it down to the actual network before I let my flashed services (2 phones) run out and go with a more expensive one.
I personally try to avoid new monthly bills at all cost. If I don't they seem to add up quick. So I want to make a well informed decision on this. I appreciate the reply's, and the none reply's. I guess they speak for themselves. It appears that only me and my area has seen change in service. Three weeks just seems like a long time to be down....

Probably not the case since 3G is still so common (I don't have a 4G phone yet), but it's possible...

I live in florida blocks from the beach. There is two large rivers (the inter coastal water way) that separates me from the main land. Even on the main land 3G reception is spotty. I traveled to the west coast of Florida last weekend and it was the same, spotty 3G. At my friends house on the west coast I only got 2G.
I've read that Verizon sends out updates to the device that has something to do with towers. These updates are what kills some MiFi's that are unable to except these updates. That's why I went with the phone in the first place. Supposedly all phones are made to except the updates. I thought maybe the radio in my phone was going out from over charging so I bought another one from the same seller on eb but it does the exact same thing.
I'm not quite sold yet that it isn't the phones since they are the same model and from the same seller. (LG Optimus Zone 2) It could be possible it didn't get an update and only connects to some towers.

Its suppose to be gone in the next few years. 3G is suppose to be around for a while yet. From what I read there is a lot of city, state and government infrastructure that uses the network to send small data packets. They will need years to switch everything over to 4G or 5G. But that doesn't mean they wont switch over some towers to handle more 4Glte, I read that's in the process.

I did some more research. If the phone is the problem it has to be the PRL. The phone I have, the LG Optimus Zone 2 does not except PRL (preferred roaming list) updates. Both the phones (1 is new, one is a year old) have different PRL codes but get service in the same areas. I attempted to force a PRL update by dialing *228>update roaming capability but all I get is a error message.
Does anyone know what MiFi's or flashed phones except PRL updates?
I copy and pasted this:
What is a PRL? PRL stands for Preferred Roaming List and is a database used in CDMA (Sprint and Verizon) phones. It's built and provided by your carrier, and used when your phone is connecting to the tower. It indicates which radio bands, sub-bands, and service provider IDs will be searched for, then allows the phone to connect to the correct tower. Without a correct and valid PRL, your phone won't be able to roam outside your home network, and may not be able to connect at all inside the network. The database consists of an Acquisition table, which lists which radio frequencies to search for in which areas, and a System table, which tells the phone which towers it is allowed to connect to, and the preferred order.

I have had the same issues with my mifi device, sent it back to get reflashed and still won't connect to the internet. So I bought another one from a different person and same!!! I live 30 miles from Orlando. My next move will make sure that they both work in other areas and then sell them to get back the money I've put into them. Depressing though... but I enjoyed it while it lasted... Let me know if you have any luck.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk | I scoured the interned and found a forum about flashing CDMA devices. I contacted one of the moderators that I know isn't just working off a script. He claims to have made the only fully automated PVA tool in world. PVA gives you Verizon phone numbers. He said " The old flashes do not work in some markets now after the update verixon made a montha ago, it requites a new and differnt flash to work again in all areas like before. Most people do not know this and keep selling devices that wont work in alot of areas." There was a whole thread about it in the forum as well that had started back before January. He said he had already found a working exploit. Supposedly they will be pushing it out in different areas at different times. I had him flash a jet pack 4620L (w/ external antenna port) for me and we're going to see if it works over here. He said it will be weeding out a lot of the flashers soon because the old way of flashing isn't going to work the same in some areas. He also said it has nothing to do with the PRL...
