does anyone know a way I could use real US mobile numbers for receiving SMS...non-voip. I know this is tricky but surely there is a way

Get prepaid phones? That will give you a local phone # that isn't VOIP

Yes of course, and those are the best kinds. It's easy and super cheap to buy a $20 phone that already has minutes.

You can get them from your local grocery store / walmart / target, etc.
