I find that the main advantage is being able to offer calculated shipping ... and access to different promotion tools etc ...

Shipping would be higher,but since US $ is stronger than Canadian loonie,your items would be shown cheaper in US$ on .com.
Several Canadian sellers I know do well selling on ,com
Same with Australian sellers.
