Default Anyone know what is the best course of action in this stupid situation ?

Have an Etsy store few months old has done about 50 sales , the niche is resale of retro branded goods.

A main competitor in the niche does not like me selling on Etsy and has started filing ⊗⊗⊗⊗ IP infringement reports

Although he has no trademark or copyright for the products because the products IP is owned by a 3rd party who does have the real trademark for the actual brand this 3rd party is an international brand and seemingly unaware of either me or the competitor on Etsy

Seems as they are old products its a bit of a grey area.

The first report he did I just ignored as not to get into this kind of petty games as I'm fully aware Etsy will permentley terminate both of us without second thought. but yesterday the idiot has sent yet another one so now it is getting serious .

Etsy has given me the option to post a counter IP notice against the competitor , although I have no experience with this ? how does it work ?

is it likely to draw too much attention to the account ?

Another option I am thinking is to remove all listings from the store ,cool the account get all funds out of the account and then do the same to his store and get him perma banned for being a greedy moron.

Or Any other suggestions !?!

He’s just trying to push you out. Etsy doesn’t care who’s right - enough reports and they’ll shut both shops.

Best move:
  • Pull or tweak the easiest-to-target listings
  • Cash out funds
  • Keep proof your items are legit
  • Set up a backup sales channel

Only file a counter-notice if your proof is airtight - otherwise, go quiet, let him waste his energy, and outlast him. Revenge feels good, but Etsy loves banning both sides.

Yes I think you are right , Etsy is very trigger happy when it comes to perma banning accounts and its taken me a while to configure new ones after previous bans

it's annoying as the store was scaling nicely but it's not worth having another permanent ban and there is several thousand stuck in payment reserve which will be lost.

I will cool the account get the cash out and then use other accounts to take him out .

Revenge is best served cold .

This is a good low-key approach - avoid hyperfocus on this account and spread the "attack" to other accounts - nice that you have backups

Yes but Backups are only useful if Etsy doesn't link them , if they do they'll take out every IP and MAC linked to them as well as the residential address and bank accounts

This competitor was foolish in starting this war because it's not going to end well for him but alas people are very short sighted and too greedy

He will learn

I think the MAC link is still a myth (unless there is new info to prove otherwise) but IP definitely link and browser fingerprinting etc - it is getting tougher and tougher to operate link free legally....seems like

I don't think they can link you by MAC.

IP yes, but not mac

They are tracking IMEI's on Depop which is another platform they also own

They definitely have some sort of fingerprint detection software on Etsy to track browsers

Would be interesting to speak to someone within their Trust and safety department because they must be using close to governmental level tracking softwares

I use anti detect browsers anyway but If you get perma banned thats the least of your problems anyway with the new identity verification procedures

We generally don't recommend anti detect browsers since there's too many people who got nailed using it.

How long have you been using it for?

Maybe it's been working for you, but for most it's been a problem.

For Etsy, working with anti-detect browsers is not a problem. I’ve been using Dolphin without issues, and it also runs fine on a VDS. Just to clarify, I’m talking specifically about daily work and operations, not registration please don’t mix those up.
