Its pretty much a no go. Sorry
I live in Canada and tried to open one online. Tons of hoops.
Best I could do was get a letter in mail with forms asking me for a personal check from a Canadian bank.
most ask you to go in and finish. Doing it online line is hard. Not being here at the time would make it impossible. Unless you have an address here you can have someone get your mail, forward your docs back and forth. Need a Canadian ID too. Passport, Phone number, and proof of address, etc. BUT - Main thing is you need an existing Canadian checking account with your name and address on it to open a new one... kind of a catch 22. cant get a bank unless you have one.
However, thats just my experience. Maybe someone has an idea. But I found it to just be undoable online. I ended up just going in. No other choice.
Banking for the most part these days is all hands on and in person. lots of ID and proof you are here is needed.
