At what point or what triggers eBay asking for details?

I've just recently had my main selling account suspended which is a total bummer because I was just at that turning point of doing EXTREMELY well and making tons of profit. Than it just went all down the drain because of some stupid mistakes. Actually I KNEW what I was doing was being stupid but, greed got the better of me.

Now I'm selling on two accounts one is quite new I JUST made my first sale on the new account yesterday. Here's what I'm worried about though and the actual topic on hand.

Does anyone know at what point or what the triggers are of eBay temporarily suspending your account and asking for details such as supplier info, invoices, proof of business, etc.? Has anyone ever gone more than $5000 a month gross in sales for a considerable amount of time without having to provide any of that information?

I hear of some people saying they provide ⊗⊗⊗⊗ supplier info and things like that, however I'm probably not experienced enough to do that so, if or when eBay decides to check up on me I will probably not be able to supply them with this information especially with a stealth account...

I'm not so much worried about Paypal because as soon as I hit 10 positive feedback I use Paymate. Ebay on the other hand they can have me by the balls and destroy me at any moment!

It sounds like you have sorta answered this question urself. Were u selling too fast? Or listing many items a day?

I think there are many triggers. I've been asked for that info on accounts that were doing $500 per month, and others that were doing $3k+.

This is my best guess as to the triggers:

1) New account with a large volume of sales.
2) Product line changes (ie. selling floor mats then moving to DVD's)
3) Sales over $xxxx per month. How much xxxx is, I don't know.
4) Drop in feedback or DSR's.
5) Lower sales than in point #3, but in a higher-risk category.
6) Low pricing on several products.

Again, these are just my guesses.

The problem in trying to figure out eBay is that we do not have a good set of data to turn to.

God, I wish I knew. I presonally fell I was inquired last time because I was sending out second chance offers left and right, and they assumed (rightly so) that I had tons of product.

I am making the dangerous dollar amounts right now that have got me in trouble, so I'm on edge now, but I have made some specific changes that I HOPE will give longer life to this account.

You and I have the same strategy. I always try to make my accounts last. But I am always prepared for them to fall. My general rule is to never leave more money in PayPal than I can afford to send on a six month vacation.

They have not asked for anything on my new account. The previous suspension has nothing to do with my question. It was suspended due to MC019 trademark/copyright violations. Now that I read my first post again I have no idea why I even mentioned my previous account maybe I'm still bummin out

Reason I'm asking is because they have yet to ask me for these details on any of my accounts and I either want to be prepared when they do ask me or if possible avoid them asking me altogether.

@jamblix, there are many variables about what ebay will do. At the most, comments are anecdotal.
I am sorry about that good account. Make note of what you did and try not to do it again. Back to the topic:
ebay hits new accounts sometimes at the 1st listing (MC010) to verify ID. That in turn can trigger MC0169.
Imperative you have a working phone, that items be within a reasonable price and listing not done quickly. Feedback from buyers should reflect how you are doing. ebay like that lots.

Try not to worry about the other variables. Solutions exist.

You're still using Paymate? OH god, how can you stomach them?

Yeah, I'm not sure about your experiences with Paymate but , they worked perfectly fine for me. All payments cleared within 3 days and money in the bank within a week. The customer service I'll admit isn't 5-star but, they will not ignore you and give you canned responses like some other companies.

Back on topic, anyone else like to share some experiences or triggers that made eBay ask for seller details?

but seriously a little common sense goes a long way. Also having access to multiple accounts and using a few to experiment with helps too. Think like this. If it makes you think "will they think this is suspicious or too much?" it probably is.
