Default New observation about Paypal holds

I want to understand holds.
Is there any price range in which Paypal doesn't hold money at all for ebay items. Like for items under 10 pounds or so ?

A couple of months ago, I sold some items on ebay amounting 8 pound each. Each payment was held under the 21-day hold policy and as soon as I recceived feedback they released it.However, I remember, all those items I listed were auction style listing.

Very recently, I listed some items on ebay account (no seller history at all and seller account created 15 days ago) each for 9 pound each and used a very new Paypal account created about lets say 15 days ago though I got it VERIFIED.
I noticed that, on this occassion no payment was being held by Paypal.I received all funds instantly. The only difference was , this time I used fixed price listing.

Could anyone comment and explain more about the Paypal holds in this context. Is this a new thing, a random thing that just happened to me or was it there since the beginning?

This has been happening a lot - if you receive several payments, most are held and one may be allowed through.

Does not seem to be based on amount - have had hold on 30 cents.

Magic also involves what you are selling i.e. the category...

One of my stealths didn't have the limit when I created, whereas, all my others did.

1 week later I get an e-mail saying from now on PP will be holding my funds for 21 days, just like the others.

Shrug, I do shipping from PP anyway so all my tracking is logged, my funds typically get released a few days after I ship.

Nope. They will hold 99 cents belive it or not...

As for why and when its become a bit of a mystery. Older accounts are getting it sometimes. New accounts are not. I have had small payments held and big ones not

On the surface it appears random. But I can not see it being random. But it is certainly hard to know what and why right now

IF you use FIXED price + INTIMIDATED payment then paypal will not hold the funds. Something I found out.

You can confirm this? You have tested it enough to be positive? Meaning if you turn off immediate payment it holds/on it does not, and so forth?

Well I dont know, if u mean immediate payment and Not intimidated payment.
But anyway , the point is , around 1 year ago, i used to sell both auction style and fixed price and the payments for my auctions used to get held , but i remember some payments didnt use to get held and at that time i didnt pay attention to whether the type of listing (auction, fixed) could be an attention seeker :P

All my items are BIN and still get held. But I dont have any immediate payment required. Some buyers take a day to pay so I dont want to scare away the impulse buyer

I cant see any reason why immediate payment would make a difference. But you never know, could be glitch in the system.

Be nice if someone that has an item that moves in a fair volume test it out

i have had payment holds with BIN and immediate payment required, also offered free postage as it was a new account but still got holds, on one account the holds didn't start untill the account was 6 weeks old.

Didnt think it made sense. Just a coincidence on his account I assume

I have one that started after 4 months [with no problems]

They have just stepped it up I guess. What used to get by doesn't anymore....

They have a list of when it will be removed. 6 months and 100 feedback are two that come to mind. Not sure if any one does it or whole list

Yeah it would be great to know the trigger, I have two new accounts both selling the same thing, one gets holds the other doesn't.

I agree there has to be some form of trigger to this as I can't see it being random, and like any other thing with a trigger if we discuss it enough a pattern will merge.
