Default How important is it to have a working phone number on ebay?

I have plenty of friends that have cellphones. I was planning on using theirs just to get my ebay verified. But then if ebay calls i am screwed. I was wondering how many of you actually get prepaid phones just incase ebay calls. And how many just someone elses phone or use toll forwarding service to verify your ebay acc.

I use a forwarding service all the time - the initial call has to go through to verify. Lot of people keep the numbers active - I try as well but sometimes number expires.

It is very important!

Ebay can call you whenever they want to to 'verify' your identity.Same with paypal.

If it is an important account to you then do not risk borrowing a friends phone.

It can be done for sure but why risk it?

I would recommend using a VoIP.You will then be able to forward calls to any number you want, landline or mobile.Without ebay knowing of course

Does it forward calls to me also? Just incase pp wants to call me?

I would say it is vital that you have a working phone number at all times for a long lasting stealth account.

paypal seem to be calling more increasingly.

I've gone back and forth with my opinions on this matter...

If you have 100 accounts up and running..... will you have 100 active phone numbers? no.... you just roll the dice, because over the long term some are going to get shut down eventually. I don't mess with keeping the phone active anymore.

Then 100 accounts like that is more of a pipe dream than an actual reality.

Obviously that many accounts they would be so grouped to not need individual phones.

Preferable to have working phones. Just charge the buyers extra to cover the costs

For those of us who actually still sell on eBay, having a working phone number does not guarantee you will not have a limitation or suspension. Yes, it's part of ebay's TOS to have a working number.... yes, it will get limited if they call and you have a dead number, but I just focus on keeping many accounts under the radar(s) so they don't have a reason to call in the first place. When you look at the costs, it's insane. I think in 2009 I spent something like 6000 dollars in phones......

I hear that - I try to keep the number working for 6 months if not 3. Then I let it go EXCEPT if account goes heavy powerselling/feedback status.

9 accounts, maybe ebay calls one in a month? See what I mean?

Good method though...

if you only have a few accounts, then a cell for each is ok. If you have scores of them, I suppose you can take a chance. I rarely get calls from ebay/pp or customers, they always email you...I did get a blocked message pon log in and restrictions once for not having working number but I got reinstated as soon as I added another number and waited a few weeks, no messages, the block just lifted at some point...

Thanks for all input and advice on this. As of right now i am using all of my family's cellphone numbers for all my accounts. Told them if pp/eb*y calls to answer tell them you are busy and you will call them back . I am trying to spend as little money as possible on this. Quick question, lets say when you call pp/eb*y do they check what number you call from? If i have my cell phone number on account 1 and if i call from that cell phone number regarding account 2 will they check to see if the phone number i am calling from matches any other accounts?

This can be fixed with spoofapp

Also, it is against ebay and paypal policy to continue a phone call with you if they learn that you are driving when you answer the phone. They will politely self terminate the call immediately.

most 800 numbers pay for the rights to see a number regardless of whether or not *67 is used. I believe *67 works with paypals direct number, but not with the 800 number. It's better if the call doesn't show as private also.... someone with something to hide surely looks more suspicious.
