Default Ever sold an ebay item too cheap?

Apologies as this may not be the right place to ask this , but I'm sure a lot of us here have sold an item too cheap and had to make an excuse. Reason I'm asking is that two of my recently sold items went for a price which just took the mick. We all love a good bargain, but we also need to eat. I want to refund the buyer, any advice?

That is a pretty tricky situation.

You could be honest and explain to the buyer what happened but it is very possible he will not be too happy. Your average person would probably be able to sympathize but it seems eBay loves to attract people with challenging personalities

Alternatively, you could make up some bs about how you just noticed the item is damaged or not working. The worst the buyer could do is leave you negative feedback.

We also need to eat? Seems a little far fetched considering you had the chance to set a price beforehand. Sounds like greed more than survival

Believe it or not, i am fairly new to selling on eBay and was clueless regarding reserve prices hence just ignored it. That being said, I'm sure owning stealth ebay accounts is not considered greed or far fetched is it now? Because I'm sure that's what you do!

Agree with everyone, it sucks that this happened but your responsible for your sale and if it sold for less you can either lie to your customer or take the loss.

Out of curiosity how much would you be loosing if you shipped the item?

For both of them, a total loss of £170, which equates to ~260 USD

Since you could have put a reserve on it or started it at whatever you wanted I can see a negative coming.

If the buyer got a great deal, like me I get them all the time when I buy, he deserves to receive the item. It is not his fault you listed it incorrectly.

If 270 means food on the table for you then you should have thought of this beforehand.

Maybe the price the buyer got it at would put food on his table also? If he was re selling like many of us would.

I'm not understanding why you undersold the item in the first place.

Was it an auction that just sold for much less than you expected?

Or was it a BIN that you mistakenly put too low of a price on?

If it was an auction, you should already know there's a chance of you not getting what you'd like if you don't put a reserve or list at a reasonable price for your expectations.

This is why I only do BIN, if I do happen to do an auction, I usually put a reserve so this type of thing don't happen.

Better to lose a few dollars for the reserve price than to lose what you lost.

That being said, learn from your mistakes.

Also, weigh out your options, is this really worth the possible neg?

OI! Be around here a bit longer before you are so self righteous.

WTF do you know about users here and why they are stealth?

Start from now learning about belonging and contributing. You will find that much easier

They were both auctions, one of them i'll be taking it on the chin, but the other is at a £100 loss. I reckon i was being too optimistic about the actual number of bidders for this item. Just curious do you get more of a response on your auctions as opposed to BIN's?

If owning a stealth account is more greedy then selling something then lying to the customer because of greed then the world is coming to and end.

If I were the buyer and could have made some good cash on something I would be highly upset.

I am sure most, or the majority of us here would have just sucked it up and took the loss because we are buyers too!

For that amount, I'd just not ship it. Worst case scenario just close this
EBay account and open another one

Right fair enough i might just do the right thing. But have you NEVER pulled out of an auction because it was too sold too low?

Why consider closing the actual account?

No.

I value my positives too well do something like that and of course as a huge buyer I dont want someone not sending me the item I rightfully won and paid for.

Anything of value to me I cover my back when I list it.

We can all make mistakes but how you handle them is what is best for you and your account overall and for that amount of money it is not worth it.

Oh yes. Oh yes.

I lied thro' my pearlies.

Got slapped with a neutral.

Had to grovel & suck things I prefer not to suck to get rid of that

Why? Because I was careless with the listing and putting the incorrect price on it.

These are the things that happen as we start out.

Eating a couple of pieces of humble pie should only happen once ( or twice).

I once won a watch for my then 2 year old daughter for 99p, she said she wanted this particular one for her first watch and she was so excited when I won it for her.

The seller emailed me after winning saying that he cant believe that I only valued the watch at 99p and he was not willing to sell it for that amount!!

I actually bidded over a fiver for it but as no one else came in for it I got it at his starting price, I was really peed off and my 2 year old daughter was gutted all because some douchebag does not understand how ebay works.

Ebay gives you the option to set your starting price, buy it now price or reserve price..

Play the game properly and use them.
That's my advise anyway.

why should the buyer suffer because you messed up

ask the buyer nicely, explain your situation and hope for the best

if its not happening, then do the right thing

if i was you i would offer some sort of compo (a freebie) if they agreed to cancel sale

treat others how you want to be treated, cant go wrong

I had a very upset daughter

To be honest though if he was acting a little more like he cared then I maybe would have done the decent thing and offered him more ££, but this fella could not understand why I was so angry and he seemed to think that he does not need to sell it for any price if he doesn't want to.

I left my first and only to this date neg fb.

I suppose for you it depends on what you have sold and how much for to what it is worth etc etc and also if it is worth the possibility of getting a neg fb.

maybe you need to weigh it all up, test the water with the winner and see where they stand with it, explain that you made a mistake with the starting price or something or you forgot to put the reserve price on, they might just be understanding but if they are angry...Well maybe you would be better just sending it..
