Default How can some companies see the name and phone number on a credit card?

Some companies like Paypal only care about AVS, but there are companies that actually match the phone number and the name you give them with the actual info registered with the card. Does anyone know how they do that? I remember paying to, I believe, Endicia and they flagged the transaction and made me contact them and verifiy billing info. They knew the actual name and phone number on my credit card. I'm mostly curious about how this is possible since all I hear people talking about is AVS, yet in reality it's a little bit more complicated.

Havent seen this phenomena without the card being used BEFORE. If they knew the name, phone number and card number already before use...the possibility of someone committing fraud would be too high (example)

Discuss this with your bank or card issuer.

Double check as to what they say you are offered in terms of privacy.....

if you get my drift.
