Buyers forced to use paypal for collection only items

So ive been selling some large furniture units, i have various sizes and a multiple choice listing where buyers can pick various matching styles of the same suite. This is collection only and have stated cash prefered but so far only one person out of five have paid cash but three of the buyers have told me that they were taken direct to paypal and were forced to pay with paypal otherwise they couldnt purchase the items.

Does anyone know whats going on? Theres nothing in the listing that I can change in the payment section so really dont understand how one person managed to not pay with paypal but three others have told me they were forced to pay with paypal, all three of them cant be lying because they wanted to use paypal in case of dispute... Any ideas?

I don't see how this would happen unless you had the 'immediate payment required' bit checked when you listed.

if you have business PP account you can change the settings from the PP page. go to my account then profile then settings and have a look there. it should work.

Your customers are trying to checkout once they brought the item, they just need to not checkout. You can mark the payment as received once they have paid you in person.

eBay of course would always want their buyers to pay PP, they would lose money if not so naturally they are forwarded to PP to pay once they have confirmed they want the item.

Make sure that the buying options for the listing has the "other" checked.

If a buyer is insisting on paying via paypal only and wants to collect the item DO NOT ACCEPT THE OFFER.

REASON: Once you give them the item there is no proof you have sold them the item. So the buyer can easily get a refund by complaining to eBay/PayPal (same company) about not receiving the. Its a classic scam loads of people do.

No different to when we post an item and dont use tracking... we have to face this situ everyday its no different. Personally, if anyone comes to pick anything up from me and they have paid via PayPal I always make them sign a copy of the PayPal transaction to say they are happy with the goods and have take receipt of them.

you have to offer paypal as one of the options for all ebay listings but all genuine collection buyers know that it is Cash on collection and will not try and use paypal.

If they pick up the item in person, I would have them sign a receipt. Just a simple thing that spells out what the item is, maybe with a picture and the statement that the buyer received this on such and such a date.

As said, I would never accept PayPal for an item collected.

That being said, if the person really wants the item for free and have paid by PayPal there's endless ways they can scam. Sad, but true.
