Paypal Stealth - Bank Account for Buying Things & Direct Debit

The stealth guide doesn't actually say anything about not being able to use a bank account to pay for things via Paypal. It just says you CAN add a bank account because Paypal don't see the name. Can I actually use my bank account attached to my Paypal account to buy things online and send money to people or can it only be used to withdraw my Paypal balance?

When adding my real HSBC Current Account in my own name I also saw a message saying something about direct debit which takes a few days to
setup. It's been 5 days and I've confirmed the code. I've not had any email saying direct debit failed. So that means it's fully verified and I can withdraw?

How do I know if the direct debit was setup or not? Do they email me?

If my bank account is fully verified, when I try to buy something via my Paypal bank account will the payment fail because the bank will see a name mismatch? Or will the transaction be successful but several days later the bank will refuse the payment due to name mismatch and Paypal will flag my account and basically ban me by limiting my account?

If the name mismatch is a problem then can I simply change the name on my bank account by deed pole to match the Paypal stealth name then it
will work?

Hi DaveyMames, welcome to the forum.

If you have received the codes through then you should be fine and your paypal should be verified, can you see any account limits in your ebay account yet? Have you tried listing a few items from around your home, that is a good way to start with. You have never used that HSBC account with any other ebay/PayPal accounts ? You should be fine to buy things from ebay using that account, and that is correct that paypal will not see the name on your bank account, to ensure that this continues, when the time comes to pay your fees, pay them in advance so that paypal has no reason to dip into your bank account to collect the fees, you can even pay them as you go along if you want to you will see an option to do that as you get active on the account.

Hi, I've read the stealth guide so I'm fully aware of everything inside it, I'm using all new account details.

So just to confirm if my bank account (with my real details) on my stealth Paypal account (with stealth details) is verified then I can buy things via my Paypal bank account or send money to people via my Paypal bank account?

And as long as I pay my Ebay fees from my Paypal balance then I'll have no problems?

Just wondering, why is buying things via Paypal bank account and sending money is OK but paying Ebay fees the same way is NOT and will reveal my real name to Paypal? What's the difference?

When you say you are sending money to other paypal accounts you are meaning as in paying for your ebay purchases, and not just transferring money between your own paypal accounts I hope because that would link them.

Buying things on ebay and paying for them via your verified paypal is ok because this does not involve paypal dipping into your bank account, unless of course you mean that your wanting to buy your very first items from ebay, in which case there will not yet be any funds in your paypal as you haven't sold anything yet, have you added a VCC or virtual credit card to your paypal to confirm it such as Entropay?, if you have done that you can load the VCC from your bank account with funds that you can use to make your very first puchases off ebay, paypal/ebay will not be able to see the name or bank details on the Entropay card, when you register on the Entropay site you use your real name and details, when you have done that you can create a sub account with a card that has your stealth name on it and that is what you use to make your purchases off eBay.

The word used to describe the word you mentioned on this forum is always masked out, but everyone knows what you mean.

OK what you said now is a bit misleading from what you said before. I feel the need to clarify my question again:

Obviously all my Paypal details are unique as I said I've read the Stealth Guide. No I'm not sending money to myself! My Paypal account is fully verified with a VCC and bank account. I don't want to use a VCC for purchasing things as that's expensive. I would rather use my bank account as it doesn't cost anything.

If my bank account (with my real details) on my stealth Paypal account (with stealth details bought from a member here) is verified then I can buy things via my Paypal bank account from websites accepting Paypal? And can I also send money to 3rd parties (Send Money tab) via my Paypal bank account?

Actually both are not ok - both ways can reveal your real name to PP since a 'sending receipt' is actually generated

People are giving me different answers. What does anyone else think? Hopefully enough people post that we can come to a consensus.

Assuming the real name is revealed, can't I just change the name of my bank account by deed pole to match the stealth paypal account name. Surely then it would be OK?

You don't have a paypal bank account, where did you get that idea from? Paypal is nothing like your real high street bank! I think @rsot has mislead you there with his comment about buying through your paypal account on ebay, lots of people who have seller accounts also buy things from ebay as well using their paypal, if names and details were revealed then there would be many many more people with banned accounts.

Also what makes you think getting a virtual credit card is expensive? It is not I can assure you, and with UK ebay you do need to have a VCC to confirm your paypal account, when you then add your bank account that verifies the account and paypal will send code numbers to your bank to ensure it is a workable bank account, and you shortly after that you will be ready to start operating as a seller on ebay. There is a search box higher up on this forum page that you can type things into to search for information, also you can contact your account seller for more information, or for a different viewpoint.

Just re red your comment above and realised you were saying you felt that using your VCC to buy things on eBay is expensive, it is not expensive and actually works extremely well, of course if you do not log into your ebay or paypal accounts, you can buy things off ebay as a guest, you will see that option offered and just by clicking on it you can go ahead and buy that way with no worries of creating problems for your ebay or paypal accounts, you can just your bank debit or credit card to pay.

Do not change your name by Deed Poll. That is OTT.

Either pay for things via a VCC or use the funds in your PayPal balance.

Do not allow PayPal to be funded by your bank account. It will most likely raise issues.
