Default Ebay refunds buyer for "faulty returns" now?

I have a buyer trying to bait & switch one of my items. He had just opened the account before buying it, CLEAR AS DAY hes a scam artist. So anyways he opens a case saying I sent him a can of paint and shoes...even uploaded a picture.

Obviously he wasn't smart enough to return the package back via priority and picked the cheaper method (first class) which gives me 100% certainty I won't be out 650$. After talking to a supervisor (regular reps were useless) he told me that if in the event because you offer hassle free returns a buyer returns say a new item back used all I have to do is call in and show proof it was used and I get refunded or they refund the buyer NOT me.

I'm TRS on this account with ALL 5's on dsr except shipping which is a 4.9. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, or maybe my phone skills are just that good haha. I ALWAYS get reps to put notes on my account when they say things like this so when I call in they see I'm not making this up. Very very useful pertaining to cases..

Any thoughts?

Words are our best weapon when cases get opened.

And I win all my cases, at least almost all.

Nice conversational skills out there! But if the buyer was a bit smarter, it could come out the other way.

Well my whole point was that I don't know if thats the case.

I've learned that when neg's/defects/neutrals happen its not exactly HOW you explain the situation its what words you use when explaining. I was trying to have them close the return before getting the package, didn't work BUT I knew before calling I was in the safe zone because of his mistake.

For instance you can explain to a rep in extreme detail how a buyer has buyers remorse but if you don't actually say "buyers remorse" they most likely will find a way to side with the buyer.

Here's a gem that most of you may not know, maybe you do. When a case is opened and the buyer leaves a neg, if you dispute the neg and DON'T mention anything about a case, or return, when the neg gets removed the case and return if was started AUTOMATICALLY IS REMOVED.

I already did this with a buyer and got the rep to actually side with me that the buyers comments were considered "buyers remorse" and he didn't even notice I had offered 14 day returns hassle free. So the buyer got the return he started automatically closed AND the neg removed.

Excellent observation! Have you done it multiple times to confirm, or it happened just once?

Yes I have.

You can't expect the first rep to fall for it, its a loop hole.

Usually it takes about 3-5 reps until I get one that I can work with. If you never mention something, sometimes the rep will never even check. Have you ever noticed how you can explain something in detail for 2 minutes and they will repeat in question form EXACTLY what you just got done explaining?

This is very useful to know because when one thing gets removed its a domino effect. I was shocked when it first happened because EVEN IN MY LISTING I state I offer returns on everything etc etc.

But the buyer pissed me off by leaving premature neg, didn't give me a chance to make it right and was just a d1ck. I didn't realize at first that by getting his NEGATIVE removed the RETURN would close too.

Most would try to get the return closed but if you go after the neg, which almost always can get removed with the right wording. Keep in mind buyers remorse is a VERY broad term. All you have to do is make their comments somehow pertain to buyers remorse and your good to go.

Has anyone heard a rep say "faulty returns"?

This may be a way for us to get protection if a buyer returns a "faulty" item meaning they used it, if new etc.

How do you show proof that the item was used? The picture of the can and shoes might as well be the seller showing a picture of a used item being returned. Why would ebay take your word over someone elses?

Also, I'm not understanding why first class vs priority changes anything?
