Default "Hassle Free Returns"

I just become a powerseller and top rated seller this month with my non stealth account. I got an email about saving 20% final value fees if I offer returns.

Can anyone explain how you handle returns? And did you opt in on ebay's "hassle free return" program. Thanks

I was enrolled in the 'hassle free return' program for a short while. After the first return, I found that the hassle free part was for the buyer and the hassle was passed onto me - the seller!

The return shipping costs are free for the buyer. Where does eBay pay for this? Out of the seller's pocket of course. Worst part about it is, eBay used one of the higher options for return shipping and took it out of my sales.

An item that normally could have cost $3 to return, eBay took out (I believe) $10. I remember, because I was so miffed about it that I immediately opted out.

I would much rather handle the return myself and offer a credit in return shipping fees to the buyer. Both parties are happy this way.

Avoid hassle free return program - horrible charges.

What I did was, Open a P.O. Box for mostly buying but also some selling, I registered the P.O. Box in my name AND a fictional Business Name for returns...example:

"A.B.C Company"

If a customer ask why return that specific address, I tell them that specific company handles all my returns for me.

I manage returns to my PO box that I have access to (w/ name variations that match my stealth name).

I often tell people to send to that address for returns.

I also will offer to credit them for a portion or total amount of their shipping charges for the inconvenience (or really their compliance).

This way both parties are happy.

Why are you worried about your non- stealth account?

Access to the address matters for any account.

Well Done on getting PS status

@km018

Go on doing what you have been doing with the good customer service, attend to issues and just be a little bit paranoid.....

The Po Box is nice - I used it too when I have to process returns - looks nice and professional to buyers

The PO Box is a good idea.

Helps aid processing of returns and looks professional.

I opted in trying to streamline the process for returns. Buyers abuse it terribly. I got returns for no reason. Got the stuff back used or broken, no explanation and I usually ended up paying triple the normal return cost for shipping... Worst experience ever!!!

Many things offered by ebay are only of benefit to ebay.

Sellers miss out.

Yes of course - they wont put the packages inside the box but will leave slip to come by postal counter and pick up

When ebay tells you they are giving you something or helping you look behind you.

Another non thought out "lets try this today" ebay blunder.
