A million bucks on ebay is nothing.
Every category is unique. | Well the thing about ebay is you have to create your own listings to get sales.
On Amazon you can add an offer to an existing listing for GUARANTEED (almost) sales. Any product I purchase is 99% sure to sell. Sales rank gives you an estimate of how many units sell per day/week/month and you can plan accordingly.
Also if you're selling on ebay you need to ship your own orders. Amazon ships all your orders for you so that eliminates the majority of the actual work.
I would NEVER try to introduce a new product to Amazon. If there isn't a good sales rank for an item then I'm not interested. I'm willing to compete pretty aggressively on price too. If there's 1 or 2 other sellers on a listing I'm willing to price match and split the sales, if it's more than that I'll run down the price until some sellers back off. Demonstrating that you're willing to run down the price to break even goes a long way to getting people off the listings.
On ebay these kinds of tactics don't really work that well. It's 2 totally different marketplaces and you need to use different strategies to be successful on each.
