Pulling out of the Market?

I'm not sure what you guys are doing, most people would say stay the course and if you're not retiring in 10-20 years to just keep investing.

It seems all doom and gloom right now for the marketers.
  1. Trade War is heating up
  2. Yield Curve inverting?
  3. 10 Years of growth behind us

We're bound for a correction, right?

What do we think about the stock market and real estate?

Is it better to hold cash instead?

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

I have been thinking a correction has been due for a little while. In a few countries its already happening, its just not really hitting the news. Property prices across all of the UAE are crashing right now

The UK is starting to stagnate slightly on house prices

Its hard to tell exactly when a correction will happen, it maybe 6 months but it could easily be 18 months. Its a bit of a game of chicken right now as to when to start saving the cash in order to buy during the correction instead.

Just have to weigh up opportunity loss not investing now V potential opportunity gain when the correction comes. Unless I was buying to redevelop or as a long term investment in an area like London right now I wouldn't buy anything personally.

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Personally I pulled out of my the stock market about two weeks ago. Good timing now that I've see what has happened lately.

I'm ready for a crash.

I don't think housing will decrease that much, not in my local economy at least (too many people moving here) but there are plenty of other investing opportunities out there.

I started hard money lending recently. That's been more profitable than other investments lately.

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Moneycircles and just holding BitCoin is where I have money right now. Yeilds on moneycircles are really good and so long as the capital is spread across lots of small lends its a pretty safe investment (famous last words....). Eventually I expect I will put it into a flat in London as London just never seems to decrease in value, not even during 2007/08. There is just too much investment internally and externally to let that happen

Stocks always eventually go up - just depends how long your willing to wait!

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Holding bitcion?? You're brave!

I agree with flat in London and Stocks keep going up.

I'm not worried long term.. short term I'm excited for buying opportunities so I'm getting ready for that

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Student accommodation is where I want to eventually end up but the coffers need buffing to be able to do it the way I want to do it before that is an option! They represent a very good ROI though

Another market that I am toying with is a flat to then AirBnB out. Again the ROI is very good if the right area is chosen

aspkin 08-25-2019 02:13 PM

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Hmm, I thought about doing AirBnB for awhile now. It seems it's not very passive. You have to actively manage it unlike traditional rentals.

If I had nothing else todo than for sure AirBnB would be worth it.

But I don't think of it as an investment more as a job.. maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

You can get a management companies these days. They take the same % cut as a normal rental would for a long term rental

Airsorted is a large one for example

It means less profit but less trouble as well. Its a balance

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

I haven't changed my position in the stock market at all. This turmoil is the result of two governments bullying each other and they could turn the tide anytime they want where you would see an immediate revival. This is not the kind of downturn that is out of anyone's control. I just don't see these guys destroying their own economies because they can't agree on some points.

I dont like the market but one thing I would watch is the value of the Dollar.

Both. Watch what the Forex traders are saying. I can say right now, the USD being so high has wiped out my South American, African and Australia business. My goods are 2-3-4x as expensive in those places. Canada also is very low.

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

Yep its pretty good in way for us in the UK with the £ being low and the $ being high. It means a lot of external investment and of course its good for exports. On the other hand though its pushing up property prices in certain areas and importing as well as travelling overseas is a lot more expensive.

SMART MONEY is buying UK,GBP is cheap
Yes,London property holds up well, not like NYC.
West Coast USA property prices are coming down due to lack of Chinese interest .
Stock market?
It would be rough, all that money has to go some place, but where>negative interest rate German bond??
There will be a recession, lower interest is not going to prevent a recession,I dont understand why Trump is so desperate?
May be he knows something he is not telling us.

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

I lived in a university town for many years, within walking distance to a prestigious private school, many students prefer to live off campus and housing is a problem for both local and students.
But renting to students can be a profitable business,if they do not behave, call their parents.
They will pay rent or their parents will pay for them and you dont have to do much to spruce up the apt.
Locals in the neighborhood if they cant afford to buy rental properties, they rent their basement or a room and get $400-600 a month, not bad income.

The slowdown is real, every day you hear some companies providing lower future guidance, the economy is slowing ,the tariff, the sanction, the strike, the retail landscape race to the bottom mentality.
40,000 GM workers are sure not to splurge this Xmas, some of the GM suppliers have been laying off workers.
What saves the stock market is low rate and even lower after the next Fed meeting, all that money has to go someplace.
You can leave your cash in your brokerage account and watch how they make money with your money, commision free trade ??There is no free lunch

Re: Pulling out of the Market?

If I live near a university campus,I would build some studio apts with pullman kitchen ,undergrads are immature and can be destructive but graduate students are better and they have an income, though modest, from teaching.
Even people who work ,they need a place to stay ,between rent, car payment and student loan, there is not much left, with a studio, you can shave a few hundred dollars off rent say t pay for food!
Was talking to a geminologist who goes to Tuscon Jewelry show every year,he said all hotels are booked years in advance,so B&B would be an alternative.

Thank!
I not only sell, I make a combined portfolio: both shorts and longs. A good speculator should look in both directions.

It looks like ecommerce is maturing, you start to hear downgrade, lower guidance, stock du jour today is Softbank writing off some of the investments in its portfolio.
WEWORK,any one?
Grubhub?
Etsy ?Uber?
WMT is offering grocery delivery for a fee,per order or annual membership?
whatever happens to being able to come to your house and put the grocery in your fridge?
why not cook it and eat it too ?
