Your question is very general. perhaps try to be more specific (example - what type of items are you talking about? is this a new seller account or new account altogether?)
Generally speaking After you turn the account into a seller account you should spend at least a few days browsing around and doing what an average ebayer would do. When you do start listing always do so with a low risk item. Establish yourself as a new seller by selling safe items for the first while.

After a few days I usually start off listing a book, then I wait for it to sell and ship it then I start selling my real items, slowly, and keep increasing the qty

have sold $300 for 40 items to date so far
about 30 listed items (low priced toys) at the moment all auction style
I have sold only 1 $25.00 buy it now item USB thumb drive
it's 1000/25K account

"a while" is nice but should I wait 2 months or 3 months before selling new items?

I have been selling toys and a couple of USB thumb drives
I have ONE of my old items ( Computer Audio interface) up for sale as an auction
it will probably sell for $100-125 its an auction style

I have some new golf balls and new golf tees I want to list as new
as well as the toys I have listed are all new but I have been selling them as used I what to list them as new so I can get higher prices
