Does it happen with other sites or just paypal?

Its possible this may be happening cause you use several email addresses there.

But try to reset it; Tools > Options > Security > Check remember PW for sites and hit OK/Apply.

Only on paypal, on every xp user account is the same, it remembers all other sites but just not paypal.

Thats what I thought cause it happens to me only on paypal too. It may only work for the first email you used it with but I never fixed it - I just type it in every time like you:typing:

Not sure if Paypal embedded something in their page or if Firefox most recent update is the cause. I'm working on finding out.

All I know is it is something new. My setup has been all-good, then it just quit working the way it always has. So, I paid attention to my screen. Seems like something in the Paypal page has hijacked the upper information bar in Firefox. I can see it TRYING to ask me if I want it to remember the password, but it disappears so fast all by itself.

I had my password saved a very long time ago and it has been working just fine until very recently. So, Paypal code seems to have deleted the remembered password from the Firefox database and it is not even letting the browser get an answer from ME if I want it remembered again.

There HAS to be a lawsuit in there somewhere....

On a related note, I'm beginning to trust Firefox less and less. Somehow somebody malicious managed to get on the development team. And commercial class spies have made it in, too.

'Splain me this:
Firefox used to be so BIG about blocking cookies and the claims to be a safer browser. Yet, now my toolbar gets hacked an almost a regular basis, my prompt to remember password doesn't always work (as some others have noticed), and what is WITH the DOM storage? That should have NEVER EVER been included...

My system has not been infiltrated in any other way. Also, I just put together a brand new machine and installed XP Pro SP2 64 Bit directly from the factory disk. Installed all my 3rd party software (including Firefox) from discs or local files from USB archive. Was not connected to internet for any of that, didn't even add my network driver and plug in the Cat5e until everything was finished. Same thing as all my other machines.

Firefox has gotten weak!

Thanks vicvelcro, so its not just me then.

Vicvelcro 04-22-2009 01:02 AM

Nope. Not just you. I thought it was just me. Trying to find the cause over here, and staying quiet. If you had not brought this up, I would have gone on thinking I had maybe futzed my own settings somehow. But now, that seems less likely. If I get an answer, I'll post here.

Possible remedy. YMMV.

Make Firefox Remember Passwords without a Bookmarklet

optimiced | en » How to make Firefox remember *all* passwords (even when logging to PayPal & Yahoo Mail)

Second link covers possible locations of script file in OS's not mentioned in first link. Good luck.

***NOTE***
I strongly suggest anyone doing this and saving passwords for financial related sites should consider installing TrueCrypt, make a hidden container, open the container mounted as a drive, then move their entire profile into the container. Those who elect to do this step, look it up, research it, understand it before you even get started. It's easy to do, but you don't want to try fixing a mistake after it's too late. I'm willing to steer somebody in the right direction. I'll answer specific questions. But if you expect me to do it for you, expect me to collect the cost of a six pack from you beforehand. I WILL wait until after the install before attempting to self-install the six pack.

Which version of firefox are ya'll using? There's a new version 3.0.9 just available. Now last time there was an update, I had password problems.:pout:

Vicvelcro 04-22-2009 02:41 AM

Currently, I'm at 3.0.8 and checked for updates about 2 hours ago. 3.0.9 is so new the doctor's handprint must still be on it's heinie.

And now that you mention it, it wasn't long after I moved up to 3.0.8 that the problem appeared. It didn't happen right away, my stored password worked for the first few days after upgrading. So I dismissed that as a culprit. Having read more about it, other people had the same experience. I still want to blame PP.

GreenBean 04-22-2009 02:49 AM

^^^Let's both blame them.:thumb: Makes me so nervous when this happens.:pout: I keep a log of this cr*p & that is why I mentioned it.

vetus 04-22-2009 03:12 AM

i got 3.0.9 already, why is yours ok then greenbean? is it just 3 of us who have this problem?

GreenBean 04-22-2009 03:55 AM

:pout: No, it's not working for me. Having troubles signing into paypal and another forum:pout:

oompaloompa 04-22-2009 05:10 AM

another forum? GB are being unfaithful to us, I would never so much as look at another forum....no after being here anyway

Vicvelcro 04-22-2009 01:53 PM

Ok, well...

Seems the Firefox 3.0.9 is available for me. Is it worth bothering right now? Does it REALLY fix anything? I'm going to start being a little more careful about updates.

Regarding the topic of this thread:
Firefox is partly to blame - for leaving the opportunity open
Paypal is fully to blame - for taking advantage of it

How disappointing.
