Default question about virtual machines

if you use a virtual machine service (specifically the Microsoft Azure) will it give you a different ip to use for eBay Stealth? I was wondering if the renting of the machine would allow you to set up stealth accounts or does it use your own ip. What is the point of virtual machines otherwise. Now for many of you it may be a dumb question but I was hoping someone could explain this a little further.

The point of virtual machines is to virtualize a desktop environment so that you can have a "fresh computer" to work with without actually setting up a fresh computer. Virtual machines have nothing to do with eBay Stealth or e-commerce. They can be used for e-commerce but you still need to take steps to ensure your setup is good for stealth.

I've always used vmware and have no experience with any type of cloud-based VM service. I store my VM's locally and within each one I have a VPN configured so that I have control over my IP.

Can't say for certain if the service you are using gives you an IP address. Chances are that if it does though, it's not a Fresh IP and it's probably shared with other users. It would be best to configure a dedicated connection within your VM so you know for sure you're using a good IP address.

When people talk about virtual machines they're usually referring to Oracle VM VirtualBox or most often its VMware Workstation.

As Phazors explained, its basically like a separate computer. Imagine having 10 laptops in front of you, it would result in a lot of clutter as you have 10 sets of keyboards/trackpads/screens etc.

But with a virtual machine you share resources from 1 computer, and make as many virtual machines (as possible). You can then use them all simultaneously without the extra hassle that goes with having 10 laptops isolated from one another, i.e. copy files between them without emailing it to each other etc.

Best way to understand it is to get hands on with it. I believe VMware offer a months trial.

When creating multiple VM hosted on one computer do I have to worry about such Fingerprints components as cpu serial number, speed, model number, which are assigned to the host of the VM? Are these info identical for each VM i create on same computer? Will amazon link my accounts based on these info?

This thread died three years ago but...

Yes and No. Javascript can only tell you how many CPU cores you have and a bit of manufacturer information but never enough to draw a complete picture.
Amazon or whoever it is you're hiding the information from will need to know your CPU type. Fortunately, Javascript can't do that. Only an application or at least a plugin that can talk to your OS will do that.
