anyone here been busted?

Just out of curiosity has anyone here with a stealth account been traced back to their real name and address for whatever reason? I am wondering just how stealthy these stealth accounts really are. Obviously they are good for getting back on Ebay and Paypal if you've had problems before but as far as protecting your true identity I would think they don't go very far. Also, what kind of cases do you think Ebay/Paypal consider large enough to go hunting someone down? You only really ever here about massive fraudsters being busted who've scammed people out of thousands and thousands of dollars. Would simply owing them money be reason enough regardless of what you did?

It must depend on the amount of money, but then its difficult to get into a position where scamming PayPal out of a large sum of money would even be possible because they are so careful. There's posts on the forum about people owing $20,000 somewhere. That seems like it would be worth hunting down.
I think the police would have to get involved to uncover your true identity if the account is created properly

I agree, it must depend on the amount in question before they would really go after you. Since most of the bank accounts must be opened in real name with ss provided, it wouldn't be hard to track down criminals and find out the true identity. However, Stealth was NOT written for scamers and fraudsters, but for real people as a guide to help them get back on Ebay and start selling again.

yeah and I guess so many people do business using Paypal one account with a neg $1k balance or so prob is nothing to them.

I'm sure the accounts are tracable. I've read here and there that people who owe large amounts of fees can leave the account with no worries. It goes to collections and that's usually the end of it.

I'd like to know If anyone on a stealth account got busted for vero

By fees do you mean Ebay fees or claims/chargebacks as well?

Another Orion-speak post.:pout: 'Busted for vero' as being harassed by the IP holder or losing accounts thro' suspension.

it would all depend on what information you have provided if you have a bank account attached to your paypal, that can be a direct link to your real info , and don't forgot paypal/ebay will have your ip address which can be traced to your home address unless you are behind a proxy or vpn. Im no lawyer but im pretty sure you need some kind of court order or warrant to be able to track this kind of information. as long as your not scamming people or funding terrorism i don't think eBay will go through the expense and trouble

alphaversa 05-30-2009 05:09 PM

They don't care. Stuck eBay with a lot in listings fees on one account a year ago. Never a word.

Lyda 05-30-2009 07:18 PM

Yea right, never a word ..huh?

no I think Orion is talking about the vero rights owner going after them for being counterf*it.

Saw a post (not on this forum) vero owner orders your vero goods or even smarter your non vero goods so you are off-guard. Asks to return them and then gets (in UK) trading standards involved, with your return address....they knocked on his door at 6 in the morning, he got out of it by pleading didnt know, werent for resale, first time etc..must have been scary though......

I personally think the bank account issue is not a problem, due to data protection, ebay isnt interested , but the rights owner would need a police investigation to get your bank details, I think only the big guys would have problems

Youd have to be a big player though to get their interest, or had member of public complaints.

Mylo said ip can be traced to your address, no it cant, not by ebay, possibly the ISP would but again they dont do that for anyone but the police. Ebay/paypal are not interested in being the first to report members to outside bodies, they cooperate with them only if forced to by law.

Saw it in newspaper once, happened to someone and got reported...the bottom line is that the likely way you will get busted is by agencies NOT needing to use ebays help, but ordering from you direct and returning...
