eBay Asked for Last 4 of SSN???
 

I tried to create a business account and eBay asked for the last 4 of my social... so I bailed. I thought they didn't ask for this until I got to about $20k in revenue. What do I do?? Create a personal account?

personal account first and then upgrade one when needed. Been this way for years.

and they will ask for the last 4 of the SS when you upgrade also. Just so you know.

Might have something to do with the switch to Adyen but that's just a guess.

I have only ever upgraded a personal eBay account to a business eBay account (never started a business eBay from scratch). That was 3 years ago and they didn't ask for any type of tax ID then.

Why are you upgrading the eBay in the first place? Last I checked, you don't need to. Upgrade your PP to business and leave the eBay as personal.

It's been a long time since I opened a new eBay account so I didn't remember the steps. I just went ahead and created a personal PP account to be on the safe side.

Looks like it’s rolling out as Adyen launched a FAQ for it and some folks on the community board claim they have offers for “eBay Payments”.

Thanks for the confirmation. So eBay will presumably start asking for a tax ID of some form on all new seller account registrations in the near future.

No way I'd be selling accounts on here with the current status quo.

Yeah, it’s gonna be just like Etsy. You can technically still make accounts for sale, but it’s gonna require a lot more one on one with a buyer and some trust, which I don’t think people will have given how many scammers are out there. So yeah, it’s probably gonna be dead in the water for most.

Anyone in the US/Canada/UK should be alright, and a few other places, but outside the country stealth looks like it’s gonna be the thing for most.

Clearly I’m still speculating but from everything I’ve seen so far is almost a carbon copy of Etsy.

When you sell on Etsy and a buyer wants a damage discount or maybe a shipping amount mistake do you go into Adyen or do you deal with some Etsy return/adjustment page of some sort?
