What method to use for Ebay Phone Verification?

This is my first post. I've read the forum and did searches and also purchased the Ebay Stealth book.

What is the current updated method for phone verifications with Ebay. I've seen trac phone, vnumber (no longer working), etc.

How does it work if you are assigned an extension. I signed up for the free 30 trial and they gave me a local number and an extension. Will this work for the Ebay phone verification?

change the "Type" value from Auto Attendant to Extension. After you changed that value, the call will go through directly.

Where can I change "Type" setting. I'm logged into my account and I'm trying to find it?

Ok, I think I found it. But does the caller have to listen to the recording 3 times before it's automatically forwarded? Is there a way around this? thanks

They won't listen any recording, it will go straight transfer to your phone after you update the TYPE setting. I tested it 2 days ago and works on eBay.

bluemoon999, do you know in which menu should i fill the number where i want my calls to be forwarded? or the calls will be forwarded to the account phone number i have registered with ?

If you want to know more info/steps about updating/changing the account info, just call their support#. They will answer within 3 seconds and give you quicker and accurate help.

Can you use on of those throw away phones that you add minutes to? The kind you get at the local party store?

Recently, PP has been giving me the msg that cell phones cannot be used to confirm location anymore. Tracfone shows up as a cell phone. Thus, forwarding service (into the tracfone) is required.

Ebay has called me on my cell phone in the past, but I need a land-line for the paypal.

Does paypal and ebay share information other than CC numbers for payments?

I got slammed recently using one phone # on Ebay and a different one on Paypal. The original phone used for Ebay ran out of mins. I bought a new one for Paypal. When A problem did occur with my Paypal acct.....they did not use the # I provided them. They called the Burned out phone # I used for Ebay. Within minutes, my account was history. I am now a suspicious scammer needing to provide 12 resolution items. in order to be restored. Only $300 in there...Kiss It!!!

Can you set your own area code with magic jack (or any of these services?). I need to confirm the location of one of my stealth accoun ts and its in another state. Is that going to be possible? I thought I was good with my tmobile prepaid, because I had a local area code on it, but paypal knew immediately it was a cell phone and refused it =(

You can choose from a list of available area codes. Not all areas are available, though. So trying to find one to match an existing city you used on PP might be a problem.

For creating a new PP, you can pick your phone first, then use an address on PP registration that matches to THAT.

yeah. I'm fine with making new accounts and getting them verified. I'm just having difficulty now getting 1 account off limitation because of the whole land line requirement they put into place. I just need a low cost solution to that right now. I guess magicjack will be a fall back idea. I'm going to try call forwarding first I think. I'm leaning towards using ringcentral. Anyone have any better ideas, or idea if they'll work for my needs?

I have thought about getting Magic Jack but I have read alot of bad reviews on it as far as not being able to get a dial tone, getting cut off all the time or it just not working at all. Have you had any of these problems?

I have always used net10. It's 30.00 for a phone that comes with 300 mins. I just verified an eBay account 2 days ago with one.

The only problem with these pre-paid phones is that you have to purchase additional min after a certain amount of time even if you still have them, or you will loose your service.

My uncle has magic jack and it's pretty good for what you pay for. Sometimes when his computer is lagging or he's downloading something, the magic jack sound get's distorted. Otherwise it's perfect.

Magic jack will automatically disconnect a call at the 2 hour mark. Using a lot of bandwidth will cause choppiness, watery sounding transmission, and echo. That is not the fault of the device or the service, it is the fault of the user trying to use their bandwidth beyond its capacity.

Problems getting a dialtone are only a virtual issue. There is no REAL dialtone with magic jack or any VOIP system. It is simulated dialtone. If you experience a lack of phoney dialtone, you have issues with USB driver needing a tuneup. The OS driver, not magic jack.

Magic jack does not dissconnect your call after 2 hours trust me. I talk to my uncle every week for more than 2 hours. He always need's help using his computer. Also why does it matter anyways. This is for ebay and paypal confirmation. Not like you are going to use this as a home phone. If it were me, I would chose the magic jack, but unfortunately they do not have canadian numbers.

Yoz, everyone I know who has magic jack, including myself personally, has every call end at exactly 2 hours and to continue - we have to dial again.

Every phone I have (for ebay verification) gets used for other things too. No sense wasting what you got. I have a magic jack (which I don't use for ebay or paypal). I never give ebay or paypal a direct number anymore. From now on, it's a virtual number forwarded into an existing phone. My tracfone collection is absolutely insane, and they cannot be used for verification anymore without getting really pissy with them about it.

It is VOIP so it is not likely to be perfect. The USB dongle malfunctions, calls drop out. We stopped using it because it was unreliable. Sold it on craiglist;)

The magic jack itself is made of poor quality. First time he got a majic jack he had to return it since the line kept on cutting but he got a replacement at bestbuy. Anway's you can buy it and try it out yourself and if you do not like it you can alway's return it. There is no risk.

Gb, did you get a AU phone number. I thought magicjack only had us phone numbers.

Any suggestions as to a good virtual call forwarding service? I need it to confirm my location on paypal, so it has to register as a "land line". From what I've read on here, it seems some have had success with ringcentral, but I'd love to hear about more services if you knew any. Thanks!

Nope, I was referring to a Seattle phone number. If it was for AU, I would say that

I've been perfectly happy with mine. I determined which ports it uses for packet transfer, changed the QoS settings in my router to give bandwidth priority to the device. Regardless of how much internet I try siphoning, the magic jack always has first priority and the leftovers go to torrents or browsing or whatever.

My only complaint is the 2 hour 0 minute 0 second call termination.

Another bonus is that I can take it anywhere where there is bandwidth and use it. I could go to an Oklahoma coffee shop or a Wisconsin cheese motel - if there's wifi, my phone will call out or ring in on the regular number. I can even plug it into somebody else's PC and still have my phone list.

hint: if you are ever on the lam but need to call anywhere, you *could* go into any decent computer store or public library, plug into a demo computer or workstation while nobody is looking, and gank some phone time.

Ring Central, My 1 Voice, Google Voice, Internet iPhone, or Stanaphone (might be closed for new applicants now).

I can't speak in regards to the international calls. Never tried.

Even though I guess I'll use virtual call forwarding to solve my limitation issue, At this point I'm seriously considering the magicjack for everyday use. Like a lot of other people, I did away with my land line years ago. But at $40 (then 20) a yr., with portable capability, I might just use the magic jack to bring a line back into the house.

Hey...does anyone know if my1voice allows you to sign up (or pay) with simon cards? I just tried, and it said it's not valid =(

Travel light. Buy a cheapo phone at the dollar store. Leave it behind when I check out of the hotel. Headsets are cheap too. But until I can get one surgically darth vadered into my snot locker, I'll stick with a standard phone plugged in.
