How can I setup multiple google voice numbers?

Like the topic says. This used to be VERY easy to do. But now, when I try to do it using my cell # it just says: This phone number can't be used to sign up for a Google Voice number. Try verifying with another number.

How can I get around this? I'm planning on setting up a # of stealth Ebay accounts and 1 paypal one.

The crackdown on GV seems very hard for past few years - likely due to overuse/abuse.

Might consider getting a real number like tracfone or so

Since they are only $10-$15 this sounds like excellent advice. But how many numbers can I setup with a tracfone? I am going to probably need between 10-20 numbers when everything is said and done.

EDIT: wait, couldn't I just buy several simcards for a $1 from tracfone.com and use them in my iphone 8 on the t-mobile network? Wouldn't each of them give me a new #?

Ummm just buy a phone from your local grocery shop... much easier and consistent.
