$150,000 Stuck in Paypal

Here's a good one:

Today I took a ride out to a job site where my dad was working to check things out just for fun. I was talking to him and one of the other managers when the subject of Paypal came up. Recently the city of Buffalo put his company in charge of selling all the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium seats on sale online. They had demolished the arena last month or so and the seats are ready to be auctioned off. They did the same thing for the Yankee Stadium seats. Same company if anyone pays attention to that stuff.

Well the site has been running for the past 3-4 days and over $150,000 in seats have been sold. The account was new so you can obviously predict what came next. BAM limited! Paypal obviously saw this as fraud and limited their new business account.

I told him all he should have to do is verify all 3 of the usual info requirements and everything should be good. But money in that amount may be something Paypal will want to hold on to. I'll keep everyone posted as to what happens next. I couldn't imagine having that kind of money tied up for 180 days. Obviously a merchant account would have been the best way to go in this situation. Amateurs :nono:

i think he is lying

there are money laundering laws with paypal

and if it this sort of amount we are talking about why has he just not got an attorney to get his money back for him

It's not held by PayPal yet. It does not mean necessarily this is a fraud, and I wouldn't be surprised there are legit naive people out there..So, let's give him benefit of the doubt.. We'll see what's up with this soon enough.

Why would someone waste their time making up a story? I am sure he has better things to do than make **** up.

Yeah I don't know why you would think this is made up. Google Demco and you will see all the major jobs his company has completed. And better yet, log onto Tradingo.com and check out the listings.

From what I have heard paypal has released all of the funds except for $50,000, which is still a lot. They provided paypal with invoices and they release some of the money. The problem is the seats won't ship for another 3-4 weeks so they cannot provide shipping info.

Wrong. Don't assume like that. Certainly never be that rude in open forum again.
Large amounts of money DO get held by paypal.
There was a US Senator that had moneys held by paypal during an election contest.

Not the greatest post I've seen on here :suspicious:

If its a company having an auction, they will have the documentation to be able to get it released at some point, no doubt. All will turn out fine most likely.

150k wow!

Peple who don't trade on Ebay don't all realize what can happen using paypal.

What senator was it and do you have a news link of it?

This is funny. The city of Buffalo accepting PayPal. Makes me sick.

I was quite the party animal in my younger days. Even helped throw a lot of underground parties. There was this one time I drove past this movie theater that had been vacant for years and there were several semi trailers in the parking lot and a bunch of guys loading stuff into the trailers.

I was really interested in throwing a party in this place so I stopped to talk to these guys. The dude in charge was some rich guy that had bought all of the movie theater seats in the entire movie complex and had sold them to buyers in Singapore. Obviously he didn't tell me how much he paid for them but clearly it was a substantial amount.

TL;DR - OP's story passes my bull**** detector with flying colors.

PS, it was one hell of a party till it got shutdown by the cops. ;)
