Fun on reddit.com with ebay/paypal employee

Do any of you browse reddit.com? They have a pretty cool subreddit over there called IAmA, which is short for "I am a". It's pretty self-explanatory if you wanna check it out:

I Am A, where the mundane becomes fascinating and the outrageous suddenly seems normal.

Anyway, I've been talking with a guy whose best friend works for eBay, and does work for PayPal too, and he's interested in participating in an IamA on reddit!

So, if anyone here would like to get involved in the discussion and ask the guy any questions, I'll let you guys know when he's got it all set up. I'm not really sure what to expect, or even what he does for eBay/PayPal exactly, but I'm sure a ton of people will be hounding him with questions. I imagine that this would be one of the first few to be asked.

So, if you could ask an eBay/PayPal employee anything... what would it be? ;)

I'd ask him to send me to send me ID, SSN and invoices and tell him he can't go home tell I get them. Then once he's sent them, tell him I havent received them and to send them again.

I would ask him to make my ebay/paypal a ghost account. So I wouldn't have any limits. No limit ebay paypal account I know they exist.

It could be worthwhile asking him about specific actions that might cause suspensions, specifics about what exactly causes PayPal limitations, and maybe even if there's a way to circumvent providing a SSN, etc.

Now, of course the guy is in no way obligated to answer sensitive questions, but I think this IAmA is going to be done anonymously so he just might be willing to divulge something, or at least give us hints.

From speaking with his friend it sounds like he will go for a yellow star by emailing one of the reddit mods from his ebay.com/paypal.com email address. A yellow star on reddit means that the reddit mods have confirmed that the person hosting the IAmA really is who they say.

I'll post back when it's all finalized. :)

BTW, mods, sorry if I posted this in the wrong section before. I wasn't really sure where to put it. Did I freak some of you out with the original title? :)

If it's anything like the pinkie chats we used to get on the Ebay forums it will be a laugh a minute :)

pinkie chats? What were they?

captainjack1980 12-08-2009 10:36 AM

It is/was a nickname for the Ebay/Paypal employees who post on the ebay forums - their posts are/were highlighted in pink.

There were regular chats scheduled on threads with various employees so ebayers could ask questions directly... they usually descended into ranting chaos lol.

Haven't been there since I went stealth so don't know what the deal is these days.
