Trading Standards Take Action against ebay sellers selling F-A-K-E-S

In the Sun newspaper there was an articles about Trading Standards taking action against a SOlicitor selling F AKE Camera Batteries on ebay.

He got a warning in writing then was taken to court and jailed for 1 year and ordered to pay £1,750 in costs.

Be Careful!

Is there a link to the story..

jamblix 03-28-2010 04:33 PM

What an unlucky guy, the whole thing probably got started by some enraged customer. That's why I'll refund any customer if they are unsatisfied for any reason AT ALL.

Here's another story that's good. A woman selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ DVDs, and those Disney Baby Einstein DVDs got caught and sued. Customs found over 1000 Baby Einstein DVDs in a shipment sent to her address. Customs let it fly and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent bought a Baby Einstein DVD from her. After that Walt Disney sent her a cease-and -desist order. A month later she idiotically created a stealth account and started to sell the same thing. Authorities searched her home after they made another purchase and found over 2000 ⊗⊗⊗⊗ sealed DVDs. Major bummer for her.

Still though it's partly her fault for not being smart about it. Look at how much it took for her to finally get caught. First I would never order 1000+ products in one shipment alone and expect it to sail through customs. Another thing is if I were to receive a cease-and-desist order from the brand manufacturer I would blacklist that specific product from my list forever.

Anyways my 2 cents, here is the story: Woman pleads guilty to selling bootleg DVDs

For those selling or thinking of selling branded imports from China be weary.

Dude 03-28-2010 05:25 PM

I think its best to stay away from selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ items, not worth the headache

GreenBean 03-28-2010 05:28 PM

For starters, anything from that toe rag paper should be treated with contempt
(Justice for the 96:peace:)

This is better than that source: 128 pages of action being taken by the authorities. As Neo said, be careful

Yeah, the authorities don't like counterfeiters much. They will go after you for this if they have a trail.

Am having trouble locating the Solicitor selling the batteries story, it was only a small article.

Found this one though:

£105k fine for policeman’s wife Fiona Begg over eBay scam | The Sun |Home Scotland|Scottish News

GreenBean 03-29-2010 04:53 AM

@Neo, the story I read eons ago was of a man aged 47 years and his solicitor-trainee wife being charged :ranger:

NZT 03-29-2010 07:26 AM

This story was in Saturdays Sun Newspaper. Solicitor selling Camera Batteries.

The interesting point was that I recall Trading Standards offering 2 warnings before taking action. This is the point that I found interesting due to several members here talking of letters and some advising "they cant do anything"

I read this while I was out over the weekend.

I will see if I can ring up my aquantance and get the name of the guy so I can find the full article.

anyone know what her sentence was?

vigilantex69 03-29-2010 05:30 PM

I don't understand why you would sell ⊗⊗⊗⊗ crap under your real name to begin with...

mrkbri 03-29-2010 05:57 PM

i didn't know that anything on ebay was original. last fortnight i brought a camera battery, mobile phone battery(crXp), poster, pc game for kids, beanie, 16gb usb drives, new wireless mouse and a go-duster(crXp). im sure no more than one of these was original or not grey market goods, though most where great and absolute steals.

Dude 03-29-2010 06:34 PM

The problem is only there if you buy a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ item which is advertised as a branded product.

Nu uh

Counterfeits are illegal, period. For example, If I print a 100 dollar bill, "oh all good it's ⊗⊗⊗⊗", I still go to jail.

Copyright laws protect brands, designs, logos, slogans, all kinds of things.

Some things are only illegal to copy and SELL.

GreenBean 03-31-2010 01:50 AM

@vigilante. First laugh of the day. Tell me how many items are made as copies of another item and not sold? Please:rolleyes:

Neo posted the thread for people to be aware of possible problems..
