How did this happen

Had some items listed a couple of weeks ago. They are sold direct with no middlemen, but there are always a dozen or so listed on ebay by people selling theirs.

Several months ago I had listed the ones that I had for sale and the reserve was not met so I listed them again a couple of weeks ago. There are pirated versions out there on ebay of them, but mine are legit.

I get an email from the producer of the item stating that he saw that I had them listed several months ago and now have them for sale again. He then goes on to say that I am not in his customer database, so how could I have the item to sell if it was not a counterfiet?

I emailed back to him and he was satisfied with my response so no problem.

But what I want to know is how did he get my regular email? It came to my regular email and not through ebay's my messages. Also how would he have gotten the name on the account to cross-reference his database?
I thought that maybe he had setup an account to place a bid in order to get my information, but there was no user information request made.

So what I am wondering is how did he get my info?

I should also state that with the exception that the payal account is verified with a bank account of mine that all of the other information is bogus.

How do you know the email is from the producer? It could have been a spammer.

Easy if he is VERO member he can get your info and so on

No it was real, from the company.
It is a one-man operation with less than 10 items sold on ebay by various users each week.

Hard to believe that an operation that small would be given VERO privileges with such power

He probably used a stealth account to get all of your info to order the product. Then once he got everything in order he made his move......

They usually send letters.

That is what I originally thought, but doesn't an information request send the information to both parties?...i.e. if a buyer has a bid on an item doesn't his information get sent to the seller at the same time. In other words you can't get the information without giving up your own.

There was a bidder who bid on more than one of these items with zero feedback and ended up canceling the bids just hours before the auction ended. But if it had been him using a stealth account wouldn't I have received an email with his posted information?

That's just strange... you would have gotten the notice if he did a user info request

They only thing that I can think of is if he is a registered VERO company, maybe once he has done that with ebay they will provide user info unilaterally to the rights holder of anyone selling any of their items.
The thing is that it is a very small operation I can't imagine that ebay giving him any kind of weight...he doesn't even sell the items in question on ebay, only his website
