Paypal negative balance problem

I have a similar situation with an in the red paypal account, big mess with this limitation. My question is this, paypal somehow got ahold of my boyfriends REAL cell number and has been calling him, threatening to turn the account over to the fraud department, he told them he knows nothing about it, that he hasn't used the account in a long time. The only real information they have on him is an old debit card number, and our PO BOX number. We never put his cell on file, so we are not sure how they got that, but I am wondering what they can do, or will they do anything besides send it to collections? The account is down about $3 G's between ebay and paypal right now.

They probably checked his credit report. If he ever used his cell phone number on anything like a bank loan, car loan, electric company, job application or any other number of things --> it will be in his credit report. Anyone who pulls the credit report would get that number. Same goes for unlisted land lines. People can't get it by normal means, but if the unlisted number ever goes on anything official or commercial, it is available anyway.

Thanks for the reply Vic. Can they even pull his credit report? We never added his SSN to the account. Do you think we have anything to worry about along the lines of they threatening "fraud" or will they just attempt collections?

They can, but would be underhanded. There are ways.

They will attempt collections, but not likely to pursue fraud so long as he clearly denied it and no further communication from him or you to them takes place.
