US Customs tell DHL to get my SSN

I have a package that has Clearance Delay on it for about 6 days now. I had called DHL to find out what is the hold up. They are asking for a copy of my SSN or some TAX form along with information on the product. If I dont give them the information the product will be shipped back to the supplier.

I just want to know if anyone have had this issue before I send them my info.

Items are all "VERO" so... :D

Ballsack 06-10-2010 03:43 PM

Don't send them anything.

cardfelon 06-10-2010 06:48 PM

Yeah I would not supply them with anything. I assume the package is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ stuff from China.

healthnut88 06-10-2010 07:04 PM

I wonder what that's about? Anyone else ever been asked to supply their SSN?

GreenBean 06-10-2010 07:17 PM

I hope the package has a nice trip back to China ;)

I've changed the title of your thread. DHL has no authority to ask for an SSN. Only a US Government Department can do that. Yes, the request may come via DHL but there is a difference. I want that to be evident for others:peace:

I am curious to know how big the package was. I have always ordered in smaller quantities so as to NOT draw attention to the packages. I've yet to have a problem & I get at least 3 to 4 shipments per month just from DHL. Several more via EMS/U.S. Post Office. Even though you can get a better price for a higher quantity of a product, I have always thought that was way too risky in trying to get it through customs. Can you tell us if it was a really large load of something?? I'd like to know........
Thanks.

Good sellers break up the shipments into small boxes sometimes. So some of it gets through at the worst.

shoot2kill 06-11-2010 04:09 PM

The box is about 3 ft. x 2 ft x 2ft. and weighs about 35-45 pounds. That box was 1 out of the 4 that my seller has shipped(They ship them a day apart) This isnt the first time I ordered and all of my supplier split up the shipments. Now that box was the 1st box shipped and it was held. The 2nd box came and the 3rd and 4th box came the next day(all to the same address).

I Never heard of DHL or Any othe carrier looking for a Social Security Number.

No Matter Who it is looking for that Number it Cannot be Good.

I would Chalk it as a loss, and WALK AWAY QUICKLY.

Do Not Give them ANYTHING, not even a Call or E-Mail, especially if it is Software, they are trying to hand out Death sentances for counterfeit Software lately.

but if you can provide some info or doucment to them, your packages will be get seized,it is better to ask the shipper to send the invoice statement to DHL if you do not want to show any your details in your side.As your packages still alive but if you do not do anything, they will send it back ,i am sure the cost is too much for you and seller.

jeffweico 06-19-2010 02:44 PM

Could this just be for tax purposes, like to levy duties on the items?

I agree with the other to NOT give any info, I was just wondering.

teedon 06-19-2010 08:22 PM

But if you are not give the info, they will send the goods back to your supplier, the shipping cost to come and back is very high, sometimes double if the goods come back to china for some shipping company, like fedex.

shoot2kill 06-24-2010 09:29 PM

...mostly likey it is for tax purposes! I checked around and found that too often. The package has been sent back to the sender and they already told me that they would be charged for the returned package!
