Hi Guys,
Just had the MC010 verification call from eBay. It's nothing to worry about at all, no spanish inquisition or anything.
It's a stealth account and i had just listed my first item and got an MC010 within 10 minutes of clicking 'list your item'.
I scheduled the call for 1040 and they called at exactly 1040. I gave them the number I used to register the account and do the original phone verification code, which is a voipfone number, and it worked fine. I guess you have to make sure your computer has a microphone.
It rang and I said 'Hello'
eGay: Please could I speak to Mr xxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx (first and last name or the account holder)
Me: That's me
eGay: Hello, I'm calling from eBay, I'm calling to talk to you about your eBay account, you scheduled a verification call for today.
Me: That's fine
eGay: OK, please can you give me the username of your ebay account?
Me: xxxxxxxxxx
eGay: Perfect, OK, Can you give me the physical address that the account is registered too?
Me: (Gave him address and postcode)
eGay: Perfect, erm.... what can I ask..... Oh, can you tell me the item you are trying to sell
Me: Yeah, a used mobile phone
eGay: Which one exactly?
Me: Yeah, a Nokia 5800
eGay: Perfect, OK, that's all I need right now, I'll pass it on to the relevant department.
Me: Thanks
He obviously just had my account details in front of him and had to ask 3 questions about it. I can't really see the point in it - maybe it's just to weed out the ones scared of getting a telling off. Unless they scan your voice for signs you're lying or save your voice and run it through a database to check for multiple calls, but I doubt it.
Also, the guy wasn't from the UK, so i wouldn't worry about having the wrong accent for the part of the UK you're listed as, or don't sound the right age.
I'm anticipating getting an email now, either telling me the account is fine to use or telling me to fax in my ID. Have to wait and see.
