PP putting back payment hold
 

I got an email from paypal about payment hold. And when I logged into PP,
there's this red bar which says: "Important message about your account. From now on, money you receive will be temporarily held in a pending balance. To learn more, please read our funds availability policy"

This is on an account that has over 50 DSR averaging 5.0
And my payments were never on hold anymore for a month now.

Is there something wrong with my acc or are they just doing this for everyone now?

I had this happen to an account 2-3 months ago saijin so I said whatever - I called Paypal just to pretend I had no idea and wanted to understand.

Rep explained that this was largely based on product sold and random limitations. He also allured to "source of payment" - international bidders, credit cards, etc....i tried to push for more but no go ha.

He did say that after some time with good history, these messages get lifted - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.

I would recommend patience and continued good service.

Seems like they are doing this quite across the board - just don't mess up to get the limitation...I would HESITANTLY withdraw cleared funds though knowing paypal's slap chop methods...

And yea, I will continue awesome service. Heck.. 5.0 DSR I have , baby.

As long as it doesn't lead to limitation, I'm fine with it.

Exactly - the feedback should lift it quickly. Tracking number with no feedback from user will cause longer delay. I just had a delayed lifted - close to 25 days...terrible.

yea, now that I'm using multiple accounts, I can see this is pretty random.

A lot of it has to do with the product that you are selling. For instance, on one of my accounts when I sell a new item it usually always gets held. After I've sold a few, it no longer holds.

This is after they no longer hold my payment... they held it again

Yea, I just hope my buyers leave feedback and paypal releases my funds in 3 days like they say and not 6-7 days.

I really do have some feeling that it's based on buyer's mode of payment - I have been canvasing some buyers to lightly ask source of payment - for safety purposes - seems like the credit card payment is directly tied up to these holds no matter what your feedback is. The goal to find a madness formula goes on...

Hmmm... what makes you think it's the CC?
The only thing I can think of is I noticed that PP wants me to pay from my bank. Everytime I buy something and picked CC, they asked me if I'm sure I wanna do that.

as long as it's not what I'm doing... but still... it's still pretty sour when they want the seller to take all the risk completely.

PayPal has no control on stopping a chargeback months down the road. Even after feedback, delivery, whatever. 4 months from now you could be months gone and if the buyer does a CC chargeback PayPal is on the hook

Yea I'm thinking if a buyer pays for your item directly from their paypal balances, there will probably not be a hold. This is paypal's money alreaday anyway just being transfered to accounts with no third party involved like a CC company. Anyone agree?

I am inclined to agree. Very easy to do chargebacks these days

I myself only get this message if I start to sell my particular item too fast. I can usually get by with selling a hand full (10-12) of items with no holds, then move on the the next account until the feedback is built up.

100%. Its in their control so they are much safer. They have zero power to stop a credit card chargeback. Even months down the road they cant do squat. If it was in their benefit they may put up some noise. But for us, if it happens they grab the loot from us and that's all they do. Regardless of what they may say in an email. They put up zero fight with the card companies. Its part of the deal in processing CC payments

Which is probably explains why most cheap items, say $50 and under, rarely get holds, b/c most people have that amount sitting in there paypal accounts to pay for it. Payments over $100 a lot of people will use a CC.

I think dine and dash is also obviously becoming more of a problem for PayPal to make the holds more common. My bet is the percentage of people just walking away from an account when they get a BS chargeback is rising. The average user all of a sudden gets a crap chargeback after they sent something just says screw this...

Ironically they have created this issue all by themselves with their loosy goosy chargeback system.
