# Home Telephone:The phone number can not start with a 0 or a 1.

So i make a new paypal and I add a number that starts with a 1 after the area code and I get this message: # Home Telephone:The phone number can not start with a 0 or a 1.

Anybody know why? I did the same for ebay and ebay didn't give a problem?

GreenBean 09-27-2010 06:23 PM

paypal never accepts foo-foo™ phone numbers.:pop2:

FandangoKango 09-27-2010 07:02 PM

⊗⊗⊗⊗ numbers? I don't get it. I thought numbers could start with a 1?

mr888 09-27-2010 09:22 PM

1 you mean the country code?

JEM 09-27-2010 10:17 PM

I wonder how that would work for a legit company that has a legit 1-800 #??

FandangoKango 09-27-2010 10:25 PM

No i mean: 786-11

after the area code in the usa which is a 3 digit number i put a 1 and paypal gives me that message...

imjustme 09-28-2010 09:45 AM

They are discriminating against 1's and 0's. Just use any other number.

lakeman 09-28-2010 01:12 PM

Is it a valid phone number or made up??

FandangoKango 09-28-2010 02:22 PM

for example a full number i would put in is:

786-112-3432

this is a valid number, which is not mine, but i don't know who it belongs to so where one's are those can't be accepted by paypal system. weird!

What is the location of that phone number? No North American numbers can ever start with 112...

FandangoKango 09-29-2010 01:30 PM

Doesn't only the area code matter?

rsot 09-29-2010 01:39 PM

Area code matters but the actual number has to be real'ish - 112 is an impossible number in North Am.

First Edition 09-29-2010 01:50 PM

holy crap....

The prefix, after the area code, NEVER starts with a 1 or a 0, because this often designates dialing long distance, calling the operator... etc. Your default phone line usually automatically assumes you're not calling long distance, so the number you're calling has to start with 2 through 9, or the switch won't know what's up

Jeez, don't you guys know anything about telephone engineering? :smash:
