Totally Confused by part of "Ebay Stealth" book!

"Every time you log into eBay, your IP address is recorded. Not just when you create an account but every time you log in. If you forget to change your IP address one day, and you accidentally login to multiple eBay accounts with the same IP, consider those accounts linked. Please note you only need to change your IP address once and not every time you login to the same eBay and PayPal account. You only need to change your IP address between different eBay and PayPal accounts to prevent linking."

I'm not sure if this is confusing to anyone else, but if someone could clarify, that would be great.
Thanks, tmon

One account one IP.
Second account, other IP.

your best bet is to never log into any account with the same ip address, change ip`s anytime you log into a different account, wether it be pp or eb,use a different user account too for each account,
it is confusing i know,i thought that too

In my attempts to be clear on certain things I sometimes confuse people. :)

12patron is correct. :)

I guess the most confusing part is the "you only need to change your IP address once and not every time you login to the same eBay and PayPal account." and
"Every time you log into eBay, your IP address is recorded"
On that one account does it matter if the IP keeps changing?
or, is the main point that the sme # is never used on another accnt?
thanks, tmon

to the SAME ebay and paypal account, you need ONE ip... for the SAME ebay and paypal

If you have a different account, you login with a different ip

You don't want ebay and paypal to think all of the accounts are the same person. Logging into different accounts with one ip won't do anything right off the bat, but when one goes down, they all go down. So keep one ip address to one account.

answer: ebay doesn't care as long as its not related to another ebay account.

main point is: record your ips on paper or notepad and make sure they don't end up on your other stealth accounts or they will go down soon.

Correct. Think of an IP like a phone number with call display. One number for each ebay/paypal account. *-*Keep a log so you dont use the number on two accounts by mistake

tommymon 10-08-2010 12:19 PM

"One number for each ebay/paypal account"

Not to beat a dead horse, but just to be sure I have this absolutly clear...
On one of my ebay/PP accnts the IP address can change as I swap out routers, or whatever method I use to change IP's, which means it's not necessasarally one number, BUT, I just can't change that number to any of the other numbers that have been used for another ebay/pp accnt? Sorry if I am being a dumbass. I think it's clear to y'all cause you know what you're doing and have already done it. Thanks for your help! tmon

get it now?

pod 10-08-2010 12:28 PM

You got it

Different is ok.
Same number used on two accounts, not ok

Hence keeping a log to avoid doubling up

tommymon 10-08-2010 01:35 PM

I got it! thanks! just clarifying!

SaiJin 10-09-2010 02:25 PM

just for you to be aware though... sometimes 2 MAC addresses will give you the same IP.

example:

ACC1 - MAC = A IP= 1
ACC2 - MAC = B IP= 1

And MAC A may not get IP 1 anymore, but it's been logged and you'd need to change your ACC2 to MAC = C to get a different IP than what ACC1 has used first.
