ebay and public records... what are some sources ebay use?

so i had to call ebay to verify my listings and the guy told me he was gonna check public records and ask me some questions which i passed. anybody know some sources ebay use for checking public records? or they pay for their records?

Probably a soft pull credit check (that won't hurt your credit). You can get those when opening a bank account or credit card sometimes too. The "have you ever lived in X city," "which of these people are you familiar with," "you opened a mortgage in january 1800, who is the bank," type questions?

My best guess is Equifax. They use them for their ID-Verify program. But Lexis-Nexis is also a good bet.

Really just Credit Score is all, so the normal 3 types of line credit in USA.

how do they pull a soft credit pull on a stealth account? am i missing something there?

How did you pass and answer the questions if it was stealth?

Any updates on this?

If they sent the name and address to Equifax, and there was no record of the stealth user, it would just come back as "not found". That does not mean the person does not exist - it could be a young person with no credit, or someone who has recently moved.

I doubt eBay would just ban someone on that basis.

Jeff, in theory, what would happen the next time a check was made? Would the first check create some kind of record?

Most of the time you can answer none of the above and you will get it correct.
