If Not Signed Out, is IP still seen

so say you dont sign out of ebay on unique windows user ebay, so it says at top hello oomp.

does it mean you are logged in when you change ip and user and work on another account? so does it see next ip cos it isnt logged out...

just wondering........

Good Question,,,,But I would hazard to guess that if a Certain amount of time passes with No Activity at all that you would Automatically get "Timed Out" and then when you return to the site and click on something it would require you to log in again,,and Most likley Refresh your session cookie, get your IP Address again, ect, ect,

I am not 100% sure that this is what will happen, but to me it seems Logical

The hello oompa is just reading the cookie I think. If you try edit or list after awhile of inactivity in many cases it will ask you to sign in again.

When you switch user and IP all they would see is that user and IP. I beleive the user that is not active is idle. I am not 100% sure, but I dont think there is any actual activity on the user you switched away from. However, I have seen "x unread messages" under users when at the select user screen. *So it may be using the internet access from the other user. Never looked into it but it made me nervous so I always close all windows before I log off and switch users just to be safe. My first thought was is it checking the mail when other user is on or just when no active user is up? I didn't like the "maybe" so I log off. I can wait the few extra seconds for safety.

Trust me from personal experience I never sign out from user account. I only switch to another. Never had any issues...

That does seem to be the general consensuses for sure. And there is no evidence at all its dangerous not to log off. But I do anyway just for the piece of mind. Even though its not warranted.

Don't you lose your internet connection when changing IPs? I would think that once your internet connection is lost you're no longer logged into eBay.

pod 11-11-2010 05:29 PM

Well it drops for a few minutes but whatever is connected will reconnect. But when you switch users it should close the connection.

MadSam 11-11-2010 08:47 PM

As long as you don't refresh that page after the new IP you're fine.

pod 11-11-2010 08:50 PM

What about rotating images or media on the page? I dont think ebay has any flashy graphics that I can think of though.

MadSam 11-11-2010 08:53 PM

They would already have been loaded and stored in Flash - not re-downloaded on every rotation. Like a YouTube video once it's been fully downloaded.

thanks boys, its what I thought, but you know how you sometimes forget to log out, I always wondered, but it seems logical that that once you end connection thats it for that sign in - yep
