Discount if not paying by paypal

Not sure if this is in the right section or if it should go under paypal but my questions is this.

I have a merchant account and don't want to accept paypal at all but I guess with ebay you have to. Can I offer say a 5%-10% discount for buyer who don't use paypal as their payment option? Will ebay remove my listing?

lakeman 01-16-2011 12:26 AM

That will definitely get your listing removed, possibly even suspended.

Pnkgirl25 01-16-2011 12:41 AM

By the way did you get my PM about an account?

Melissa1971 01-16-2011 12:43 AM

I put "Free shipping to anyone NOT using Paypal as their method of payment"

I am pretty sure this falls within Ebays guidelines as I used to offer a percentage discount but learned it can get you in trouble

GreenBean 01-16-2011 12:52 AM

If you put anything like that, there is the risk of getting the listing pulled & subsequent suspension. Also, depending on what category you are selling, you need paypal in any case. :tears:

lakeman 01-16-2011 01:03 AM

Melissa that is not a good idea, that will get you in trouble..

Pnkgirl25, I have not received a pm from you in about 3 weeks.

Melissa1971 01-16-2011 01:05 AM

Here is their payment policies

Yes Geenbean and lakeman I believe you

I wish I could get banned from ebay but they refuse to ban me. I've asked many times. Weird

lakeman 01-16-2011 01:27 AM

Lol You want to get banned? :noidea:

bigboykelly 01-16-2011 07:58 AM

If on my listing I offered a discount if paid via cash would that also not go down well with eBay? As even if I make slightly less I don't mind as long as I don't have to deal with paypal

GreenBean 01-16-2011 08:49 AM

@bigboykelly, that's another problem for the UK. You need a verified paypal to sell AND to educate the buyers to not use paypal is nigh impossible.

ebay wants to see a straight forward listing with all the 'safe' payment options..... and they say use paypal LOL. :pop2:

Go thro' the UK payment methods. Make sure whatever you offer gives you some protection.

think OP knows they must offer paypal, they just want to encourage buyers to opt for merchant - which they almost certainly wont, unless a big discount is offered. You could put a sentence saying please contact me regarding whether you qualify for free shipping.

bigboykelly 01-16-2011 10:17 AM

I would sell mainly accepting paypal but in my previous account that got suspended I always use to offer a discount if paid via cash and that did not get suspended for this reason it was due to another reason.

How would you recommend I list the item in regards to collection?

Thanks for your input

IDK 01-16-2011 08:50 PM

Hmmm.... Ebay is all about wording. You could put in your listing. "WAIT! BEFORE YOU BUY CONTACT US @ YOUREMAIL@GMAIL.COM TO FIND OUT HOW YOU CAN GET AN EXTRA 15% OFF YOUR PURCHASE! (limited time only!)"

Or you could say contact about instant rebate offer. Get creative.

bigboykelly 01-17-2011 07:57 AM

Sounds good so will see what I can do.

bigboykelly 01-17-2011 07:59 AM

I take it that I shouldnt write "discount available if paid via cash" but just write "cash on collection is also perfectly fine".

rsot 01-17-2011 03:08 PM

IDK has it right - all you need is a line for the winning bidder to contact you before payment then you can lay it out. If the buyer is a goody two shoes and decides to report you, yes you would get under heat but who "in their right minds" would toss away a discount, right.....right? Ha

Yeah ever since I had that stalker guy I've been hoping to get banned. Then free insertion fees roll back around and I go back.
too bad I do not have enough restraint on my own not to list

Well ya know it is America's most favorite way to pay =} :D

You mention anything about this and a "bot" on ebay WILL find it eventually.
