Questions after reading book
 

My son lives with us and got suspended for selling some CD's he'd copied and basically ignoring eBay's warnings. Our accounts were linked from living in the same home, occasionally logging in with same computers (I guess?) but I had no idea he was doing any of this, I just woke up one day and my 10 year account in perfect standing (2k feedback) was suspended with no hope of getting it back. Needless to say I was stunned and pretty upset for awhile, then I found this forum and bought the book. There is still hope!

Anyway ... here is my plan. I thought I'd hash it out here before I make some fatal error and have to begin again.

1. Get an address at UPS about 2 miles from here.
2. Use my daughter's name and SSN (she's 22 and say's I'm trustworthy :)
3. Get a google voice acct with a local phone number that forwards to my old cell number.
4. Change my IP address
5. Create another user acct on my computer that I will use only for ebay/paypal.
6. Use my DBA business acct that has never been used with ebay/paypal (I had just opened it a week before this happened).
7. Use the visa/debit card that came with this account (which has my real name and the DBA name on it).
8. Open a paypal acct in my daughters name using the UPS address, brand new email, new phone number, etc.
9. Open an ebay acct with the same credentials as the paypal acct.
10. Add my bank account and the visa/debit card to paypal.
11. Verify my ebay account and link it to my paypal account.

That's basically it, right? The book is awesome and explains exactly how to do each of these steps which was a great help. I still do not understand one thing though: how do I make purchases from eBay? Can I just use these accounts the way I used to? Only trouble is then I'll have to pick up packages at UPS instead of having them delivered to my house.

And the visa/debit card will have my home address associated with it. Will that create any problems? The bank is the same bank as my old one (Wachovia) but it is a brand new account. Will that make a difference?

Thanks for any advise you can give! I mostly sell custom screened t-shirts, nothing risky at all. I have sold used iPods before on my old account and might like to sell a few here and there on this account too (I rebuild them and resell).

Yes the card will create problems. DO NOT use any information that has to do with your old address, that will get you banned.

Like i said on your last thread get a p.o box and buy a greendot prepaid card and use ur p.o box address.

This was my very first thread so not sure what you meant by that.

But ... the book says to use all legit information with the bank account. So the bank account is fine, just don't use the card?

right dont use anything with your old info on it check the means to an end list for working cards or just buy one from a seller here.

BTW if your using a DBA name then dont use your daughters info imo

Things I could do:
Add my daughter to my DBA name banking account.
Change the address on my DBA checking acct to my new address.

Would this help? Actually, when I opened my DBA acct the bank had me open 2 separate accounts for my business, one JUST for online transactions to protect my 'real' acct from fraud. So couldn't I just call the bank and have my daughter added to this acct, and change the mailing address on just this acct? That way I could use her name and the debit/visa card on that acct.

Forget the DBA, have your daughter open a checking account and get a debit card in her name which you use to verify, everything else is good to go!

I was wondering about that, but I would like the acct in my name as well so I have access to it. So.... can't I just add her to my DBA acct, change the address on that account with the bank, and then forget using the DBA name? Would EB/PP know that my name was on the acct too? (I don't think so...)

If I did this, they would send her a visa/debit card with her name on it. Same acct as mine, just her name on it instead of mine. This would be a fresh acct (never associated with EB/PP, but my name would be on it).

Yup, if you add her to the DBA the bank will allow you to open a joint account in the dba name, get a debit card for both of you, verify paypal with her debit card and viola you are verified but in her name and you still have access to your joing business bank account. :thumb:

I really just want a legit acct again since I don't sell vero or anything like that. So thanks for the help. One more question...

If I use her SS number and I make over 20k a year, will paypal send a 1099 in HER name? That would not be too good. I do have an EIN for my DBA, wonder if I could just use that. After all, she is just my "internet sales manager", not the owner of the biz ;)

My regular PP acct has not been limited (his was, mine wasn't). But I won't touch that for eBay purposes again. I could just strangle my son (and eBay) for putting me thru all this.

Naa bro, a dba and EIN is for just that purpose, and unless paypal is full of retards, it will come in the DBA's name...

will I'm getting address and acct squared away today. I'll give it a shot, hopefully it will stick. I made a new user on my computer just for logging into pp/eb and made the home page on the browser ipburger.com (just to keep that in my face so I don't forget).

One bad thing I remembered yesterday. I had already made my daughter a paypal account a couple of years ago. She never used it, it never had money in it, never hooked up to eBay, etc ... I don't remember if I ever gave them her SS number but I don't think so. We all share the same last name and address. If I make her a new stealth acct with all the new info will that hurt me?
