Virtual Goods Dispute, I`m nervous.

Hey all, new problem today.

I bought some virtual goods from eBay (for an online game) and the seller hasn`t delivered anything and has completely started to ignore me. I went ahead and messaged other eBay members who have purchased from this guy and none of them had received anything, so I opened a Paypal dispute.

The seller put tracking number as "Delivered Virtually"

I did some google searches but can't find anything too in depth, but I did find that Paypal doesn't protect you if the purchase was for virtual goods? I couldn't find out if the seller was unprotected or the buyer though.

Normally I don't make threads for everything, but this is almost $300.

When opening the dispute I chose "Item not received", is this ok?
The seller's Paypal is unverified while mine is verified, will this help at all?

Thanks for any help!

Yes open the transaction right away. Did you buy it via eb ay? IF so, you might be protected - if you just did a random transaction however, sadly it will depend on catching the seller before he can make a withdrawal. Make the claim right away - all the best.

Thanks for the quick response.

I opened it about 30 hours after payment (I know all of you would hate me, but I had good reason speaking to other eBay members about it)

And yes the payment was through eBay however, when I tried to open the dispute through eBay it said that I have to wait about 10 days before opening a dispute. I then went to Paypal and opened it there. Hopefully that is ok?

It sucks because I payed with Paypal balance, not with my CC, so no option to chargeback if paypal dispute fails :(

But hopefully I win, because isn't it like illegal to sell virtual goods on eBay anyways? I sure learned my lesson about not buying...Yikes!

Ah ok so you bought it via eb ay? Yes you should be able to win since digital goods are not favoured by either system.

Keep the forum posted - what exactly did you buy? PM if you wish

oh wow, they didn't decide in my favor... There goes $285...

Apparently I can appeal, is it worth a shot or should I not bother?

I can't believe it :suspicious:

EDIT: Looks like I may still be able to open a unauthorized transaction dispute? What are my best chances of getting my money back?

But I can`t do a chargeback. I paid with my Paypal balance.

Then you're pretty much dead. Paypal offers no protections to digital delivered goods at all. If something went wrong, chances are that the buyer will lose for 90% of the time.
