ip address question

i just bought one addition computer to help manage my accounts. However, a friend i just met told me that the ip address on the new computer would be the same as the one im currently using. So no matter how many computers are connected to the router, the ip address on all the computers would be identical. Can someone confirm this? What can i do to be able to use the computers at the same time without having identical ip addresses? Thanks

If your just going through the one router, for multiple Pc's, yes the ip address will be the same for them all... how to get round it.. can depend largely on your isp.. and the ease of changing ip..

You do not need two computers. Clearing cockies on the same account will work just fine. Or else, create two different user accounts on your computer..

Yes, IP address, in your case, and in scenario I suggested above, will be the same.

Your ISP is giving you IP address. Luckily, for most of us, we can change our IP address on the fly..

Steps:

A) Go to google and google "my ip address", check your iP address and write it down..

B) Disconnect power to your router, then connect power back on. It will grab you a new IP address.

C) Do step A again, and verify IP is different.

Sometimes your ISP gives you a static IP, this is very rare though. In that case change your ISP..

It is generally a safe bet to get a DSL, instead of Cable.

Hey, one of my accounts is suspended right now. Yet I'm able to sell on the others. All I did was grab a new IP and cleared coockies..

With all due respect to the above poster, that method will not always work, most cable modems lease an IP for at least 24 hours, so you need to be a little more covert to change your IP. Easiest way to grab a new IP is to power off your modem, open your router control panel http://192.168.1.1, if you can manually change the MAC address of the router, do so (just change one number or letter), hit apply, when the router comes back to life, turn on your modem again, the modem will be forced to grab a new IP because you have a new MAC address. Give the router time to reset and then check your IP. Voila---new IP.
