What are some good excuses when opening up bank accounts?

When you are opening additional accounts at various banks in person, what are some excuses that you can use when they are asking for reasons of why you're opening the account? Of course the "I got a new job" excuse won't work for very long. I'm using these bank accounts for paypal (surprise)

I always find the best reason for wanting a bank account is "I want a bank account please" - works for me every time. :D

BiN4RY 04-28-2011 12:06 PM

Well banks here usually asks why you want one and what you would use it for, even if they don't actually take note of the reason.

Separate businessa acount.
Separate Tax account.
Separate Building account.
Separate Vacation savings account.
Christmas Club Account.
I want an account separate from my spouse.

GrannyT 04-28-2011 12:09 PM

1) "I want to trade on Ebay and keep it seperate from my domestic account.
2) I want a seperate account for household bills
3) I want to start saving for a holiday

How many do you want?

oompaloompa 04-28-2011 03:57 PM

whisper something embarrassing like, I am saving for a haemorroids op... that will shut them up......

oh, and sit on something uncomfortable beforehand....you tell the best lies when you actually believe them yourself.....

And THEN you pull out a big wad of $20 bills - watch the teller recoil a bit ha

jeffweico 04-28-2011 06:42 PM

Back in the day when it was ll checks and money orders, I sold some VERY popular items. I used to go to the bank with 50-100 checks. Boy, the tellers HATED ME! But they were all legitimate checks, so they couldn't do anything. And because they were made out to ME, not a business, they didn't even insist on a business account.

There are all kinds of legitimate reasons for having multiple accounts. Just don't have TOO MANY with any ONE bank. My personal rule is a limit of 6 accounts per bank. That way, if they ever tell me to take my business elsewhere, I only have to scramble to find 6 new accounts.

Thanks everyone

Sorry for the bump, but is this a good idea?
Will the bank get suspicious and consider adjusting your fees to the business rate and whatnot?

rsot 05-09-2011 07:54 AM

Not at all - if you just open up personal accounts, you will get charged only appropriate rates - banks won't kill you for having ebay activities going - they WANT your business.

stickmade 05-09-2011 08:59 AM

Tell them you just got a new job, and need your wages deposited into this bank, if they ask were, make up a lie, simple as that

Thanks for the clarification.

However like I said in the OP, the "new job" excuse won't work after a while

mdcc394 05-09-2011 11:48 AM

1. i want to use an account for ebay
2. i want an account just for online shopping
3. i want an account to just pay bills
4. i started working on amazon
5. my accountant told me that for recordkeeping purposes to do this
6. i want an account to send money to my kid in college and keep separate from my other accts...
the list goes on...and what rsot said is correct...banks want your business bad...as long as your info is legit and dont open excessive amount of accounts ( i would say 4-6 per bank) you are good to go

rsot 05-09-2011 01:42 PM

Exactly as mdcc394 stated - and when you don't need an account, close it and replace it - something along the excuse line of "Security - to make sure no problems"

BiN4RY 05-10-2011 12:29 AM

What about "I simply don't need it anymore"?

GreenBean 05-10-2011 12:36 AM

Nope, because the bank may try to 'keep you' as a customer.

Saying I dont need it any more is 'soft'.

rsot the Master Jedi gave a good response.

You da boss not da bank :pop2:

GreenBean 05-10-2011 12:44 AM

eta: Check what banks are going to be suitable for your stealth purposes. Check banks that allow those 'cool' stealth variations *cough*. Speak to people you know that use banks. Find out from them who they like & their reasons.

There will be a bank that appeals to you. Go into the branch, look around, dont have a stocking over your face  (oops, soz!). If you like the look of the place, go to the reception deck and arrange an appointment.

Tell the staffer you need to establish a working relationship with this bank because of .......
(bulldust reasons) ;)). See an account manager etc etc.
Now there is value in doing this for a least one set of bank accounts. Being known personally can be a goodsend should paypal be nasty. Even though we are largely in a techincal, online age, often personal contact helps to do this stealth business easier :peace:
