Ebay stealth - mac ID!?

I recently bought the book 'ebay stealth' and hav ebeen trying to apply what it says. I have been trying to change the mac ID on my router. To do this I had to reset the router first to actualy get into it using the default password. I then realised there was absolutley no way of changing the mac ID in the setup of the router and I had inadvertently messed up my entire wireless internet! I am now having to use my USB dongle and had to put £15 credit on it! I was very upset since the guide very briefly just tells you to 'change the mac ID to two different digits at the end' but goes into absolutely no detail at all. I have a netgear DG834PN router and I am on a home network.

Can anyone help?

What is so hard about pushing the reset button on the back of the router and setting it back to the default settings?

Then unplug your modem and router for a few seconds...

Then plug in your modem until it initializes, then plug in your router.

And as far as your £15 for your dongle, why didn't you just run your Ethernet cable directly from your modem to your computer to access the Internet?

I did set it back to the default settings, but the internet won't connect on my PC now. THere is a yellow '!' sign on my internet taskbar.

Reinstall router software to get internet back. Then try process again.

Make sure you hold the reset button down long enough to see the lights flash off.

Then do what I said above, and for good measure...restart your computer. You should be able to connect to your unsecure network after that.
