IP changing questions.

I looked everywhere before i made this thread, i also posted it in ebay tracking but i guess this is a better place.

Ok so i have have roadrunner which sticks me with an ip that will not change. I've kept it unplugged for long periods of time and nothing. Here's the setup

If this should be moved please do so, figured this was the best section for this.

cable providers cable modem (connects the LAN line and internet)
I use a Verizon actiontec wireless router, I've been trying to play with the mac address but it will not let me modify anything having to do with the MAC address.

Friend of mine from here also said to pick up a linksys router and connect through that. Now my question is i have my modem\router upstairs. Can i just connect my linksys router up to my laptop and have the linksys router pickup the single from my Verizon router and just change my mac from the linksys since i have it hooked up hardwire to my laptop? If this isn't making sense please let me know i will word it better.

You will need to hook the linksys up to the TWC provided cable modem. Hooking up the linksys for the first time will pull a new ip address from TWC's dhcp server. Everytime you change the MAC thereafter, you will get another ip address from the dhcp server. The ip pool in the dhcp server may have a set number of ip addresses so it is possible to get the same ip address so keep a spreadsheet.

I have this set up as stated above as we have spoke Frank, I just log into my 192.168.1.1 and go to MAC addy change the last 4 letters/numbers hit reset, and unplug the router power and plug back in. I have yet to get the same IP address in the year that I use this method.

nah as you know my router doesn't allow me to modify anything doing my mac address, i can clone it but i don't want that. I just bought the linksys and it doesn't allow me either but i also had issues with it staying connected. Going to do mess with it more tomorrow got something im going to try.

Frankie, what model of linksys router is it? On mine(WRT54Gv8) you have to go the the mac cloning part of the setup and enable it, at which point you can put whatever mac address you want in there and then click save settings at the bottom. There is a "Clone Your PC's MAC" button but you don't want to use that. Then check you ip address in the status page of the router under the Internet section.
